The Network Analyst II position is a highly technical role responsible for overseeing and managing multiple competing projects, championing the modernization of agency infrastructure, and helping to define ongoing support procedures including life cycle planning for critical infrastructure, facilities, or building technologies.

Additionally, this role requires hands-on physical technology work, not limited to running cables, mounting equipment, installing hardware, and assisting with infrastructure projects. While not directly responsible for network administration, the Network Analyst II plays a key part in identifying, troubleshooting, and coordinating solutions for network issues in partnership with IT leadership and external service providers.

Working both independently and as part of project teams, the Network Analyst II collaborates with senior technicians, external vendors, and program area stakeholders to ensure the reliable operation of infrastructure technologies across multiple locations while providing guidance regarding agency network systems, building automation controls, and life-safety technologies including best practices, industry standards, code compliance, and implementation procedures.

Responsibilities

Facilities Technology & Project Support

Coordinate and oversee the IT related components of installation and ongoing management for agency network infrastructure, surveillance systems, access control equipment, fire or security systems, building automation controls, VoIP systems, etc. Coordinate and assist with technology setups for new locations, renovations, and infrastructure upgrades. Manage external vendors or contractors performing system installations and integrations. Frequent travel to WHS and partner locations attending and providing technology expertise in support of numerous Facilities or IT led projects.

Network & Physical Infrastructure Support

Install, terminate, and maintain network cabling, fiber, and structured wiring for network and facilities technology. Perform patching and connectivity troubleshooting at network closets and workspaces. Identify network performance issues, coordinate with external network service providers, and submit service requests as needed. Support the setup, relocation, and maintenance of networked hardware, including workstations, access points, and facility technology endpoints. Assist with physical infrastructure projects, including wiring for security cameras, door access systems, life safety equipment, and audiovisual (AV) installations. Frequent travel to remote WHS locations for infrastructure support or installations

Business IT System Technical Support & Collaboration

Support audiovisual (AV) systems and web-conference technologies in meeting rooms, public areas, and event spaces across WHS locations throughout the state. Respond to technical requests related to network infrastructure, AV systems, point-of-sale systems, and other facilities technologies. Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, escalate complex problems as needed. Work with external service providers to escalate and resolve complex technical issues. Provide user education and training including the creation of user guides, FAQ, and SOP documents while championing the adoption of new technologies or software applications Maintain documentation including standard operating procedure (SOP) documents, cabling layouts, network drop records, infrastructure maps, and system configurations. Collaborate with IT leadership and senior technicians on creation of roadmaps for infrastructure improvements and modernization efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

5+ years of relevant experience with network infrastructure, access control, surveillance, telecommunications, life-safety, or building automation technology and systems. Experience in network cabling, structured wiring, and physical technology installations. Experience installing and supporting a variety of IT resources that enable daily business functions such as A/V technology, web-conferencing solutions, or point-of-sale equipment Working knowledge of network connectivity troubleshooting, with the ability to identify issues and coordinate with external service providers. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong understanding of IT industry best practices and security standards. Strong attention to detail and experiencing creating clear documentation of complex technical systems, workflows, and procedures. Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to evolving infrastructure needs. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coordinate with vendors, service providers, and internal or external partners. Valid driver's license and ability to travel statewide. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and access mechanical spaces as needed. Ability to work in a physically active role, including running cables, mounting equipment, and working in network closets.

Additional Qualifications

Experience with state, local, or federally funded IT infrastructure projects Experience with surveillance solutions or hardware including Avigilon, Exacq, and Axis Experience with card access systems including Software House C CURE 9000 Experience with network infrastructure solutions including Cisco and Ubiquiti Experience with IT network services including DNS, NTP, DHCP, Active Directory, etc.

This is a hybrid position, requiring extensive travel to remote sites throughout the state while driving a state fleet vehicle, or when appropriate, use of a personal vehicle with expensed mileage costs.

On-site HQ work is required some days based on project and operational demands, but WHS is a great place to work right in the heart of downtown Madison and the UW-Madison Campus. Remote work is allowed and encouraged when possible. Candidates MUST be WI residents or willing to relocate to WI prior to starting the role at their own expense.
