Security Designer

The Security Designer is responsible for producing detailed design documents for integrated security systems, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and related technologies. Responsibilities include performing research, conducting field surveys, and implementing feedback from customers, sales representatives, estimators, and other experts. The Security Designer collaborates with project managers, purchasing agents, and superintendents to ensure accurate and timely designs. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Produce detailed design documents from project specifications, architectural drawings, and code requirements using AutoCAD, BIM, and other design software. Read, interpret, and apply security-related codes, standards, and job specifications. Work with sales, operations, and design staff as needed to interpret project scope. Conduct field/job site surveys to ensure proper design and system integration. Design access control systems, video surveillance systems, intrusion detection systems, and related security technologies. Prepare and submit permit documents to meet jurisdictional requirements. Create shop drawings, submittals, and stock lists. Ensure required approvals are obtained for design work. Work with purchasing to order security system components and equipment. Provide consultation for project managers regarding design changes and technical challenges. Develop project timelines with management and produce designs on schedule. Maintain accurate project documentation including submittals and approvals. Prepare status reports and participate in planning and coordination meetings. Provide timely and accurate entries into operating systems. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Education/Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Proficient use of AutoCAD and/or BIM for security system design. 3+ years of security system design experience or other relevant system types. Familiarity with UL standards, NFPA, and relevant building and electrical codes. Strong math skills and ability to calculate load, capacity, and system requirements. Strong organizational and time management skills with great attention to detail. Ability to travel occasionally. Ability to work overtime when necessary. Access control, video surveillance, or intrusion detection system design preferred. Proficient use of FireCAD, Bluebeam, or other security design tools is a plus. Experience performing job-site field checks/surveys is preferred. Other Duties:
