Design Release Engineer - Intermediate
Job Summary:
Our client in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking a Design Release Engineer - Intermediate for a contract position.
What You Will Do:
The Design Release Engineer for powertrain sealing components/systems is responsible for designing, developing, and providing technical leadership in the creation, validation, and release of sealing components/systems for vehicles. This includes managing the design through all phases of the product lifecycle, from concept to production release via PPAP.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design & Development:
Lead the design of sealing components, develop concepts for sealing parts like O-rings, gaskets, rear seal retainers, ensuring they meet vehicle and powertrain requirements. Support CAD modeling, FEA, and validation methods to ensure sealing integrity. Collaborate with electrical, thermal, and packaging teams for integration. Release & Program Management:
Manage design release activities from concept to production, oversee BOM and ECNs, ensure quality, cost, and timing goals, and drive PPAP compliance. Coordinate with manufacturing, suppliers, and quality teams. Technical Guidance & Problem Solving:
Provide technical leadership during development and production, lead DFMEA activities, and develop testing strategies. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work with suppliers and validation teams to ensure design feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and performance. Partner with vehicle integration teams for proper fitment and safety. Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain engineering documentation, update specifications, and report project status and risks to management. Basics: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school or equivalent. At least 3 years of experience with sealing components and systems. Knowledge of sealing components, manufacturing processes, DFMEA, DVP&R, Mechanics of Materials, CAE Analysis, and GD&T. Experience in material selection and manufacturing methods for sealing parts. Strong communication and project management skills. Onsite position, with a minimum of 3 days/week, possibly 100% onsite if needed. Driving license required; some travel to plants and suppliers in US, Canada, Mexico. Preferred: Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering. Experience in validation planning. Traits: Action-oriented, adaptable, customer-focused, problem solver. Experience with Siemens NX or similar CAD programs. Over 5 years in design and manufacturing of sealing components.
