Civil Litigation Trial Attorney (Sacramento, CA, In Person) – York Law Corporation. This is a full-time, in-office position dedicated to representing victims and families in Elder Abuse and Wrongful Death cases. About The Position: We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Civil Litigation Attorney with 5-10 years of California-based civil litigation experience. The ideal candidate will provide legal counsel, advocacy, and representation through trial and/or appeal for victims and their families in elder abuse and wrongful death cases. This position does not have a monthly billable hour requirement; attorney hours are tracked for plaintiff's fee award petitions.

Responsibilities

Legal Representation: Provide legal representation for victims and their families in wrongful death and elder abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, and other forms of mistreatment for all phases of litigation and through trial.

Case Management: Manage a caseload of elder abuse cases from pre-litigation through trial, conducting thorough investigations, creating an organized discovery and trial plan, gathering evidence, and collaborating with health care providers, consultants, and experts; implement a strong settlement strategy alongside trial preparation.

Discovery Expertise: Develop and execute a discovery plan, conduct depositions, manage ESI discovery and e-Discovery platforms, and file discovery motions; maintain disciplined discovery practices.

Advocacy: Advocate for the rights of victims and families in wrongful death and elder neglect/abuse cases.

Client Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients, explain legal processes, understand harms and losses to develop damages work-up, and address client concerns.

Collaboration: Work with the team, public agencies, medical professionals, and other relevant parties to build strong case work-ups.

Legal Research: Stay updated on laws and precedents related to elder abuse and apply legal knowledge to build effective cases.

Legal Team Support: Contribute within a collaborative firm environment and support colleagues to achieve strong results for clients.

Time Management: Efficiently manage time-on-desk and anticipate and counter defense delays to deliver timely case closures.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and a four-year college degree.

Admission to the California state bar in good standing for a minimum of 5 years.

Minimum 5 years of civil litigation experience in California state and federal courts (experience in business litigation or medical malpractice preferred).

Minimum 1 jury trial as first chair; experience with binding arbitration hearings, law and motion hearings, and second-chair trial experience.

Experience taking and defending depositions of lay, professional, and expert witnesses.

Strong law and motion experience with strong writing skills.

Ability to handle complex legal issues and simplify complex matters.

Empathy and sensitivity to the needs of elderly clients and their families.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
