Overview
Director of Manufacturing, Operations & Assembly - Core Components at Blue Origin. This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, and supports across all Blue Origin facilities. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for financial and operational execution of a portfolio supporting all vehicles across the Business Unit. The role may be based in Merritt Island, FL or Kent, WA and leads a skilled, interdisciplinary team across multiple sites. Champion safety and first-time quality across all functions while growing and developing your team at all levels. Lead manufacturing operations including manufacturing engineering, quality, tooling engineering, supply chain, and production execution for a portfolio across multiple Blue Operations sites. Direct initiatives and strategies to deliver cost-effective, high-quality common components that meet operational performance requirements for vehicle development across programs within the Business Unit. Implement methods to increase engineering and production efficiency, quality, and productivity, including factory flow, throughput, first-pass yield, overall output, learning curve, and supplier on-time delivery. Share operational learnings and best practices to support improvements across Operations. Analyze processes at micro and macro levels and implement high-impact improvements for safety, quality, cost reduction, and accelerated delivery schedules. Oversee development and implementation of data-driven systems with a lean approach focused on delivering results. Leverage Leadership Principles to cultivate a trusting, learning culture of leaders through feedback, coaching, and development opportunities; foster a One Team mindset. Qualifications
Proven knowledge in building or transforming production operations and leading large-scale change management to improve culture, tools, processes, and competencies. BA or BS degree or equivalent experience in Operations Management or Manufacturing Engineering with progressive responsibility. 10+ years of manufacturing leadership experience. Strong knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma. Experience leading and developing large teams in a multi-business unit integrated supply chain. Advanced knowledge in designing and delivering manufacturing, production, assembly, procurement, and logistics in a low-volume, high-complexity environment. Strong business acumen with a track record of challenging status quo, driving change, and motivating new ways of thinking and doing business. Experience hiring and developing diverse teams; can create and manage work cell standard work and track deviations. Experience managing capital improvements and layout; strong verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders. Commitment to safety, quality, attention to detail, and mission assurance. Desired
14+ years manufacturing experience in aerospace domains (space vehicles, launch vehicles, aircraft, helicopters, or sub-systems). Experience in development and test phases transitioning to production. Master’s degree in engineering, operations, or business (plus). Experience across multiple manufacturing processes including metal machining, composites, aero structures, turbo machinery, soft goods, welding, harnesses, and electronics fabrication. Earned Value Management (EVM) experience. Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems and PLM/M2M systems (a plus). Compensation & Benefits
WA applicants: $182,450.00 - $255,429.30 (compensation range may differ by site). Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, parental leave, short/long-term disability, 401(k) with company match, and Education Support Program.
