We are currently seeking a Chief Quality Officer / Chief Medical Officer for our campus located in The Woodlands. Candidates must have an MD or DO degree, and have or be able to obtain a Texas Medical License. At Houston Methodist, the Chief Quality Officer (CQO) position is responsible for implementing the HM vision and strategy for excellence in clinical quality outcomes, value, and patient safety. The CQO collaborates with the System CQO and other system physician leadership in quality and patient safety to support the development of strategy and goals for leading unparalleled quality and patient safety at HM and the development of a High Reliability Organization. This role ensures that safe and reliable processes are embedded into the delivery of health care and helps develop a Just Culture which values patient safety, clinical excellence, evidence-based medicine, and continuous learning. The CQO works in close association with the System CQO and entity Director and/or VP of Quality & Outcomes, and collaborates with all disciplines, hospital leadership, and the medical staff to promote identification of organizational vulnerabilities, health care design using human factors and system principles, and learning to understand and prevent adverse events, achieve high‑reliability processes, and outstanding clinical outcomes. This position supports HM’s resources and leadership to fulfill its responsibilities to the community, maintain its premier market position, and sustain leadership in medicine.

This position reports directly to executive leadership and has responsibilities including overseeing the activities of the department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence and efficiency to meet strategic and operational objectives. It is accountable for employee engagement, staffing levels, budget development and compliance, hiring and termination decisions, coaching employees on performance, and developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment. The role also ensures training, monitoring and operational initiatives are implemented to secure compliance with ethical and legal business practices and accreditation/regulatory/government regulations.
