must be submitted with each application. Job Purpose Under general supervision, directs the operation of a community senior center; acts as the assistant director of a regional senior center, or is responsible for a small specialized County-wide program for seniors.
Essential Job Duties Plans, implements, promotes and coordinates programs and services for older adults. Leads, recruits, supervises and trains support staff and volunteers. Recruits program instructors. Prepares payroll for instructors and staff. Prepares schedules of activities. Assesses the needs of senior center members and the community at large. Evaluates senior center programs and services in response to identified needs and available resources. Tracks expenditures and activities for budgetary purposes. Purchases materials, supplies, and equipment. Prepares reports and correspondence regarding senior center activities. Publicizes senior center and other Department sponsored events through newsletters, e-newsletters, flyers, press releases and other means. Supervises a small County-wide program for seniors to provide specialized services. Develops funding or community support for the program. Keeps records of program activities and expenditures for budgetary purposes. Prepares reports and correspondence regarding program activities. Examples of Other Duties
Leads or conducts senior center programs or activities. Performs other related duties as required. Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in gerontology, recreation, education, health, business administration, public administration, marketing, public relations, nursing specialty, accounting, or a social or behavioral science. (Experience providing services to older adults may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years for the required education.) Fitness Professional Certification Requirement The following are acceptable certification(s): ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, NSPA OR AAAI-ISMA. Proof of Education, Certificates and Licenses Applicants are required to submit proof of education beyond high school to meet the required qualifications for this job. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable. EXAMINATION PROCEDURE Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of the training and experience as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Persons appointed to this classification must satisfactorily complete County sponsored CPR, AED and First Aid training. These positions must maintain certification throughout employment.
Physical and Environmental Conditions The work of this classification entails frequent walking, standing, and other limited physical activity including travel between work sites.
