Payroll Specialist
Groundworks is seeking a talented Payroll Specialist to join our team in Virginia Beach, VA! The Payroll Specialist performs payroll and other accounting-related functions, including the calculation and processing of employee compensation, wages, benefits, and taxes while ensuring accurate and timely payment and compliance with labor laws. Key duties include managing payroll data, reviewing timesheets, processing deductions and adjustments, preparing reports, and maintaining employee and payroll records in a multi-site, multi-state, fast-paced, high-volume environment. Duties and Responsibilities Perform payroll-related functions including, but not limited to payroll processing, validation, audits and maintenance Process payroll for multi-frequency Managed Services clients as scheduled Process commissions and bonuses for field sales representatives Prepare off-cycle payrolls and manual checks as necessary Certify payrolls manually and with third party software Process payroll funding requests Assist and support the accounting team with financial, clerical, and payroll reporting Submit all payroll liens, garnishments, and child support orders to third party vendor Support time and attendance corrections Assist with new client implementations and special projects as requested Prepare all reports for management and vendor audit as required Provide and balance the general ledger for accounting on all payrolls Reconcile all payroll and related accounts and activities Communicate with Human Resources on all employees pay/benefit issues Maintain and update manual and electronic filing system Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications and Skills Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent, three to five years related payroll and accounting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience FPC/CPP Certification preferred Knowledge of multi-state payroll tax laws Knowledge of Canadian payroll laws preferred Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements Excellent math/accounting skills Knowledge of HCM systems or Workday payroll system a plus Highly adaptable to various software/technologies Well-versed in payroll compliance, taxes, and reporting In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel, using formulas a must Experienced with large corporate payroll processing that includes exposure to benefits and 401(k) Provides customer service excellence by understanding the priorities of both our internal and external customers Analyzes and resolves problems through effective customer service interface and communication Maintains discretion and professionalism with clients and team members Works well in a team environment and acts as backup for other payroll team members Deals effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels Prioritizes schedule and changes expeditiously which may include working extended hours when necessary to meet critical payroll deadlines Understands the need for strong attention to detail to keep payroll accurate and timely Reliably report to work on time each working day.
