Aquatic Program Coordinator
The City of Savannah is seeking an Aquatic Program Coordinator. Under general direction, the Aquatic Program Coordinator is responsible for the creation, promotion, implementation, and programming activities for all aquatics programs, classes, and activities within the City of Savannah pool facilities. Work requires the ability to prevent dangerous situations from arising; to recognize emergencies and take appropriate action; and considerable skill in swimming, rescue work, resuscitation and first aid. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Manages the daily operation of (4) City of Savannah swimming pools and/or (4) Board of Education pools as determined by leadership. Greets, engages, registers, directs, and performs all customer service activities for the aquatic facilities; answers phones, provides online responses, and ensures all patrons have all necessary information that has been requested. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; handles employee concerns and problems; directs work; counsels and disciplines staff; completes employee performance appraisals. Interviews, hires, and oversees potential summer staff, lifeguards, and program instructors; makes staffing recommendations, provides training, and oversees hired personnel; creates work schedules and ensures all work is in compliance with policies and procedures. Prepares monthly reports; deposits funds; records daily information pertaining to the pools, personnel, and visitors. Creates, develops, implements and monitors programming, activities, and other services for the Aquatics facilities of the City of Savannah; manages participation numbers in various ledger systems, maximizes pool usage, and markets and promotes programs within the community. Monitors pools during and after closure to maintain a safe environment and provide high-quality aquatic facilities for the community. Maintains, monitors, and tracks expenditures for the programs and services offered; submits financial paperwork, manages resource and program allocation, and tracks all purchases. Prepares manuals for staff placement and in-services. Schedules and conducts American Red Cross swimming and water safety courses; teach lifeguarding courses as well as CPR/AED and First Aid skills. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Valid State Driver's License High School Diploma or GED; with two years of experience in Aquatic lifesaving, swimming and pool safety instruction; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess American Red Cross or Equivalent Lifeguard Certification, Advanced Life Saving Certification, CPR/AED Certification, First Aid Certification Must possess or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire: Water Safety Instructor Certification Lifeguard Instructor Certification First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification Must possess or be able to obtain within 12 months: Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Additional Requirements Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment. Knowledge of: Scheduling techniques. First aid, CPR/AED. Instructional techniques. Supervisory principles. Pool operation and maintenance principles. Skill in: Use of computers and other standard office equipment. Collecting data and preparing reports. Interpersonal relations. Maintaining records. Oral and written communication.
