Creating an innovative and improving work environment The Position: The purpose of this position is to support ice activities for the citizens of Allen and the skating community. This is accomplished by providing customer service at the Allen Community Ice Rink. Other duties may include distributing and organizing rental skates, monitoring ice activities, basic cleaning, scorekeeping, and stocking inventory. This position does not provide direction to other employees. Essential Functions: The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Provides customer service by greeting skaters, answering and directing phone calls, providing facility information, including class schedules, hours of operation and policies, distributing equipment, supervising member activities within facility and by answering member questions and concerns. Assists in maintaining clean conditions in public areas. Ensures facility maintains a clean and professional appearance. Assists with rental skate distribution and collection. Inspects rental skates to ensure there is no apparent damage. Using an established check list, assists with maintaining inventory by restocking items as requested. Assists with monitoring ice activities by informing participants of rules during open skate, scorekeeping, and assisting with special events. Assists with various administrative services such as assisting with laminating and sorting of punch cards and skate passes. Job Requirements: Education & Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Less than a High School diploma or equivalent with no prior relevant work experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. Must be at least sixteen (16) years old. First Aid and CPR Certification within ninety (90) days of employment. Ability to ice skate that allows one to monitor and be responsive to on-ice situations. Supplemental Information: Knowledge of: Basic facility operations and maintenance in a recreational or public setting. Customer service principles and professional front-line service practices. Ice rink rules, safety guidelines, and general skating operations. Proper use and care of rental skates and related equipment. City of Allen's PRIDE values and workplace expectations. General inventory control procedures and stocking methods. Basic administrative support functions such as sorting and organizing materials. Skilled in: Providing courteous and helpful customer service to patrons of all ages. Effectively communicating facility policies and resolving minor concerns. Inspecting, distributing, and organizing rental skates and equipment. Maintaining clean, organized, and welcoming public areas. Monitoring activities on the ice and reinforcing safety rules. Performing basic clerical tasks such as laminating and preparing skate passes. Working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Managing time and tasks efficiently during peak hours or events. Physical Demands / Work Environment: This list is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed; it does not address the potential for accommodation. Requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking. Frequent use of hand and fingers to operate computers and other equipment. Visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Verbal and auditory ability to communicate effectively with staff members and customers. Occasional reaching, bending with possible twisting and climbing to reach supplies and equipment. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly Occasional exposure to loud environments during events or tournaments. Exposure to extreme temperatures, wetness and humidity seasonally.
