Job Summary:
The Trauma Outreach Coordinator serves as liaison to the trauma program for referral hospitals, pre-hospital providers and EMS services. Establishes strong relationships and communication with outside agencies influencing access and clinical guidelines. This position assists the trauma quality program to promote the delivery of optimal and efficient services from pre-hospital to rehabilitation. Coordinates pre-hospital case reviews and continuing education programs. Keeps trauma program and pre-hospital partners well informed on updated policies and procedures, participates in policy revision within the hospital as well as with regional partners and supports event resolution for the trauma program. Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities: Collaborates with the Trauma Program and referral medical facilities, EMS services and training facilities to include core and/or protocol competency, continuing education and pre-hospital protocols and communication tools. Assists the trauma quality program with coordination, investigation, analysis, and response to pre-hospital/referral hospital safety issues, events, significant care issues and trends. Assists with assessing root cause analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and process improvement, working with pre-hospital and referral hospital multidisciplinary teams. Validates the accuracy of process measures and data elements used for outreach dashboards and reporting. Supports the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Program (PIPS) by assisting with the identification of pre-hospital/referral hospital complications and compliance with regional trauma guidelines. Participates in trauma case reviews, escalation of events through quality committees, and linking performance improvement data to action plans, educational programs, and/or outreach. Participates in the development of trauma-related policies and procedures by using knowledge of operational processes, resources and constraints in relation to the role of the hospital, performance of EMS providers and patient rights. Facilitates receipt of EMS run sheets and referral hospital medical records. Monitors and reviews pre-hospital run sheets for quality standards of care. Maintain documentation of all activities to be presented during site surveys. Works with Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Manager, Director, and team to develop and analyze data for administrative and clinical decision-making, as well as regulatory compliance. Collaborates with the Trauma Education Coordinator, institution and regional partners for educational program development and delivery. Leads the outreach continuing education programs for EMS, healthcare facilities, allied health professionals and lay public regarding trauma. Works with Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Manager, Director and Trauma Education Coordinator on outreach program development while establishing and cultivating positive working relationships to maximize cooperative efforts. Demonstrates the delivery of patient-centered care and excellence in clinical care by maintaining skills and knowledge of current standards and evidence-based practice. Responsible for data analysis of referral patterns of EMS services and medical facilities to determine success of activities and/or need for further outreach. Enhances accessibility to JPS and increases knowledge of JPS through relationship management with referral sources and other health care providers. Represents JPS trauma on regional collaboratives and committees regarding pre-hospital care (EMS and referral centers). Outreach activities with EMS and referral sources will require regional travel.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of professional nursing. Must have practiced as an RN for 5 years in an Emergency Department, Critical Care Area, or Pre-Hospital setting (Flight Nurse), including experience providing care to trauma patients. 2 years plus experience in coordinating skills training or public speaking. Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state AND Valid Texas Driver's License. Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Provider Advanced Trauma Course for Nurses (ATCN) Provider, obtained within 12 months of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) obtained within 12 months of employment. Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Coordinator status obtained within 12 months of employment. Professional certification (CEN, CCRN, TCRN, or similar) within 12 months of employment. Completion of a departmental-based leadership development program within 12 months of employment.
