Cold Weather Overflow Shelter Support Staff

The Office of Homeless Services (OHS) is seeking compassionate, dependable individuals to support the operations of the Cold Weather Overflow Shelter, which serves individuals and families experiencing homelessness during extreme winter conditions. This seasonal emergency shelter operates November 1 through March 31, with potential additional shifts before and after the season to assist with setup and wrap-up. The shelter provides life-saving indoor accommodations on an as-needed basis during periods of cold weather. Shift Schedule (subject to change based on shelter needs): 4:00 PM

12:00 AM 4:00 AM

Assist and monitor shelter guests to ensure safety and adherence to shelter rules. Maintain accurate guest counts, including conducting routine room checks. Provide shift handovers and brief incoming staff. Report incidents or issues to the Emergency Services Manager. Prepare and distribute meals as needed. Clean and organize the facility prior to shift changes. Support setup and breakdown of the shelter at the beginning and end of the season. Work collaboratively with the OHS Shelter Manager to ensure smooth operations. Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in social services, medical, health, or non-profit settings. Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply. Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
