Aquatics Lifeguard

Starting Pay $16.00/hour The candidates will demonstrate themselves to match the REACT (Respect Excellence Accountability Care Trust) culture within the City of Farmers Branch. The purpose of this position is to assist with the operation, safety, and maintenance of the outdoor (seasonal) aquatic facilities. Essential Job Functions

Responsible for successfully supervising the pool facility and operation of the staff. Supervise and ensure the safety of pool guests through effective scanning, assist with "Learn to Swim" lessons when necessary, maintain the cleanliness of the pool facility, and complete light janitorial work. This position will showcase strong leadership, exceptional public relations skills, and effective decision-making abilities. This position will conduct surveillance, provide educational support, and enforce rules and policies for staff and facility guests. Maintain all health and safety standards. Attend and participate in regular in-service training. Complete and analyze pool water chemistry and reports. Work with guests to achieve a positive pool experience. Assist the Assistant Aquatics Manager with supervising assigned staff. Requires regular attendance. This position will involve the responsibilities of a lifeguard may be assigned the role of a lifeguard. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Education and Experience

Must be at least 17 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. Minimum of two (2) years of lifeguard experience, with at least one (1) year head guard experience preferred. Possesses knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, drug and alcohol test. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information. Customer service skills and the ability to interact with guests on a daily basis. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management, peers, and guests. This position normally performs duties after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide a close and constant review. Use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Ability to remain attentive and alert during long periods of time. Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, writing, and math, including, but not limited to, the ability to compose complete sentences, understand common complex words and phrases, and perform basic math functions such as fractions, percentages, measurements, and ratios/proportions. Special Requirements

Required to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Required to perform and pass swimming and abilities test for lifeguard. Must be able to attend mandatory meetings and in-service trainings. Must be able to work on-call schedule as necessary. This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment. Licenses and Certificate

Must have valid driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed. Requires valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification for the duration of employment. The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification is desired or willing to obtain within three (3) months of hire. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification is desired or willing to obtain within three (3) months of hire. Work Environment

Position involves considerable outdoor exposure to extreme temperature changes and weather conditions, fumes and chemicals, noise and vibration. Involves occasional physical and mechanical hazards, handling of oily, greasy parts and equipment. Physical demands include but are not limited to frequent lifting of heavy objects up to 50 lbs., continuous physical exertion resulting fatigue of arms, back, legs, or sensory facilities, sufficient physical stamina to walk a majority of the workday, extensive bending, stooping, and climbing.
