Accounting Clerk I/Ii
Rancho California Water District is currently seeking a well-qualified candidate to fill an Accounting Clerk I/II position. Under immediate progressing to general supervision, to perform a variety of basic accounting, payroll, clerical, and customer service duties. Accounting Clerk I: This is the entry-level classification. Positions assigned to this level perform limited or routine accounting/payroll/accounts payable/accounts receivable/clerical/customer service duties under close supervision. Accounting Clerk II: This is the journey level classification. Positions assigned to this level perform a full range of accounting/payroll/accounts payable/accounts receivable/clerical/customer service duties under general supervision. Examples of duties include: performing general accounting functions, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and preparing work papers for the District and various agencies; performing a variety of specialized duties in the preparation of payroll for employees; and performing general office functions such as filing, data entry, and operating office equipment. Qualifications for Accounting Clerk I include knowledge of basic accounting principles, basic word processing and computer spreadsheets, and basic telephone and customer service techniques. Ability to operate 10 key by touch, type 30-35 WPM, operate personal computer, and compose general correspondence. Qualifications for Accounting Clerk II include knowledge of intermediate accounting principles, methods, practices, and terminology of payroll and/or financial record keeping, and ability to operate 10 key by touch, type 40-45 WPM, and operate personal computer. Physical requirements include frequently using office equipment such as a computer, copier, and FAX machine, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting materials and objects up to 25 lbs, and communicating verbally and using a telephone or radio for communication. The appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities can be achieved through a variety of combinations of experience and training. A typical example is: Accounting Clerk I: Six (6) months to one (1) year of general accounting and clerical experience. Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade. Accounting Clerk II: Two (2) or more years of experience in an accounting and/or payroll position with clerical responsibilities or two (2) years of experience as an Accounting Clerk I. Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade, supplemented by specialized training in accounting.
