Nordic Supervisor

The position requires a strong interest and proficiency in Nordic skiing; a basic understanding of Nordic grooming; and a complete knowledge of all facility services and daily operations. Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities Perform opening and closing duties of daily business and facilities. Ensure efficient and accurate performance of all ticket, cashier, and office functions. Perform daily inspections and oversight of rental equipment repairs and maintenance. Monitor food preparation and service. Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the Lodge facility, contacting Lodge Services and Building Maintenance when required. Handle and coordinate all incidents, contacting emergency personnel when required. Provide gracious and effective handling of all guest and employee concerns and problems. Communicate regularly with the Nordic Manager regarding safety issues, operational needs, staffing, and personnel issues. Daily Operations Maintain communication with the Nordic grooming team for daily conditions updates, as required. Build grooming and trail knowledge to participate in operations and reporting. Communicate the daily task list to Trail Steward and Patrol. Retail Ensure accurate pricing, security, and merchandising of retail inventory. Conduct advanced product training. Ski School Facilitate program sales (online, phone, and in person), scheduling, and additional services. Requires complex computer systems and exceptional customer service. Perform daily lesson and instructor assignments. Check in students, ensure lessons start on time, and troubleshoot challenges. Rentals Oversee daily rental operations and maintenance of the Nordic rental fleet. Secondary Function Train new employees in all areas and department procedures. Assist in marketing and promotions of programs. Assist in the maintenance of social media accounts. Assist with planning and execution of Nordic Center Events. Job Scope Assist in the management of a nationally recognized Nordic ski operation, 56 km groomed trail network maintained daily from November through May. Assist in training, motivating, and creating a safe workplace for 40 paid employees. Work closely with all resort departments and assist in the coordination of programs and partnerships with area businesses, community groups, and Bend Area Schools. Supervisory Responsibilities Number of employees supervised: 40 +/- Primary Positions supervised: Nordic Lodge Staff, Nordic Trail Steward, Nordic Outdoor Attendant, Nordic Instructors, Nordic Events Staff, Nordic Pro Patrol, & Nordic Cafe Staff. Scheduling and assigning work: Instructor lesson assignments. Daily operations tasks and breaks for paid staff. Training: Participate in new hire training. Disciplinary actions: Initial counseling as required, proactive communication of disciplinary issues with the Nordic Director. Interpersonal Contacts Marketing, Group Sales, IT Dept., Public Safety, Ticket Sales, Lodge Services, F&B, Accounting, SRS, Mountain Patrol, Rentals, MBSEF, Ambassadors, Facilities Maintenance, Grooming, Receiving, & guests. Specific Job Skills License/Certifications: OLCC and Oregon Food Handler's cards required. PSIA level 1+ preferred. Technical: Nordic Track skiing proficiency in all disciplines. Able to ski all trails in the network. Competent and efficient computer skills, cash handling, use of waxing irons, scrapers, drills, hand tools, shovels, axe, splitting maul, ice chipper. Physical Capabilities: Able to stand for long periods of time. Reach lift and perform outdoor chores in inclement weather. Able to Nordic ski at an advanced level. Education/Related Experience Minimum time in related position: 1 year in a guest service-related position, managerial/supervisory experience preferred.
