Poll Worker

This position is responsible for checking in voters during advanced voting and on election day and helping to maintain a safe, secure and efficient polling location. Major duties include: Responsible for checking the electors list to ensure voters are eligible to cast their ballot. Responsible for ensuring all eligible voters cast their ballot before leaving the polls. Responsible for maintaining the supply of ballots to the polling office. Responsible for issuing and receiving absentee ballot applications and ballots. Responsible for issuing ballots to eligible voters. Responsible for setting up and breaking down the voting location equipment. Responsible for hanging and removing signage inside and outside of the polling office. Assists in the final closeout and reporting of the election. Maintains polling office supply inventory. Assists the election superintendent with overall election process. Performs related duties. Knowledge required by the position includes: Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in the provision of customer services. Skill in the use of such office equipment as a computer, scanner, and copier. Skill in oral and written communication. Supervisory controls include general instructions from the City Clerk, with spot-checks for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. Guidelines include state and federal election laws, open records laws, records retention guidelines, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application. The work consists of related administrative duties and is performed in an office or meeting room. Minimum qualifications include: You must be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of the county where you will be working. 16 years of age or over. Able to read, write and speak the English language. No prior felony convictions for at least 10 years. A poll officer is not eligible to run for public office and cannot hold a public office, other than a political party office, while serving as a poll worker. A parent, spouse, child, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law of a candidate cannot serve as a poll worker in any precinct where that candidate is listed on the ballot. All poll workers are required to attend training sessions. After successful completion, a certificate stating that you are qualified to work in an upcoming primary or election will be issued.
