Overview
The Cyberinfrastructure for Network Science at Indiana University, Bloomington (IU CNS), is hiring a full-time administrative assistant to support our active research center. The administrative assistant will support an interdisciplinary team that includes software developers, data scientists, medical illustrators, biologists, and project managers. Primary responsibilities include scheduling, purchasing, arranging travel, event planning, and communications. The CNS mission is to advance research, development, teaching, and service in data mining, modeling, and visualization, with focus areas such as data visualization literacy, multi-level atlases of science and technology, mapping the human body at the single-cell level, and communicating results via data visualizations.
Responsibilities
- Provides general administrative support to the center, exercising tact and confidentiality.
- Serves as a point of contact for visitors and external collaborators.
- Schedules meetings and arranges hospitality.
- Arranges travel for faculty and staff.
- Purchases materials and supplies and tracks center expenses.
- Supports center events.
- Communicates for the Center by publicizing events, managing content for the center's website, and managing the Center's social media accounts.
General Responsibilities
- Provides administrative support to a department or group of professionals, exercising confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.
- Uses business software to prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, agendas, minutes, etc.
- Compiles data for expense and statistical reports.
- Receives, screens, and directs incoming calls, visitors, mail, and email promptly and courteously.
- Schedules and confirms appointments, meetings, and travel arrangements; tracks expenses.
- Participates in the development and implementation of administrative standards, policies and practices for the organization.
- May perform duties related to maintaining an internal website and/or working with social media.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
- 2 years of relevant experience

Additional Information
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Salary: $15.00 - $22.92 per hour
Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Typical schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
