Overview
Staff Accountant role at Cushman & Wakefield. Responsible for entry level performance of cash and basic accrual accounting functions, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and technical/clerical support. Use established accounting principles to work under guided supervision and to consistently produce a high quality and accurate work product. The intent of this position is to gain exposure and industry knowledge needed to move into a Client Accountant position.
Responsibilities
- Perform full cycle accounting to cash basis and/or basic accrual properties (e.g., Industrial, Land, Association, or low tenant/light Office properties). Include analysis of accounts and transactions, bank reconciliations, cash management, accounts payable and accounts receivable, accruals, and reconciliations. Maintain organization of a medium-volume workload for a single or multiple clients.
- Prepare comprehensive basic financial reporting packages timely and accurately in accordance with internal controls and client requirements.
- Assist with accounting support functions as directed by manager to gain exposure to various property accounting functions beyond the assigned workload, including AR transactions, reconciliation analysis schedules, journal entries, data entry, and special projects requiring research.
- Apply financial policies and procedures as found in the Client Accounting Policies & Procedures manual to all transactions and understand the structure and impact of policies and segregation of duties between Property Management and Client Accounting.
- Research, analyze, and communicate basic accounting issues; escalate inconsistencies to management. Communicate and collaborate with clients and property management in a timely manner.
- Partial time should be dedicated to the completion and review of the Client Accounting month-end checklist to expose the entry level accountant to various property accounting practices and gain a broad understanding of industry-standard accounting.
Qualifications
- Entry level accounting experience or education in accounting or a related field.
- Ability to work under guided supervision and produce accurate work products.
- Familiarity with general ledger, basic financial reporting, and clerical support functions.
- Willingness to learn various property accounting functions, including AR, AP, reconciliations, and month-end processes.
