Overview Laine Recruiting has partnered with a full-service law firm of more than 300 attorneys with 14 offices across New York State, as well as in Boston, Kansas City, FL and NJ. We’re seeking an experienced Trust & Estate Attorney at the Senior Counsel or Member (Partner) level to join their Buffalo, NY office. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned attorney who will walk into an established book of business. Their clients range from individuals of modest wealth to those of significant wealth, from younger clients building a career to older clients who have already amassed their wealth, and from clients who are professionals or employees of larger entities to those involved in family businesses.

Extending their trust and estate practice areas beyond families, they also counsel fiduciaries, owners of closely held businesses, universities and other charitable and tax-exempt organizations. Their services include preparation of estate & income tax returns, accountings, preparation of a wide range of business agreements, and the formation and administration of charitable trusts and private foundations. They also assist clients in a wide range of court proceedings in all courts throughout New York and Florida.

Responsibilities

Represent high-net-worth individuals and trusts in estate, income, and gift tax planning matters, as well as trust and estate administration.

Advise fiduciaries, owners of closely held businesses, universities, and charitable organizations.

Prepare and review estate planning documents, business agreements, and related tax filings.

Collaborate with a team of attorneys and paralegals to manage a diverse client book of business.

Qualifications

Admitted to practice in New York state

J.D. from an accredited law school

LLM in tax law or estate planning is helpful but not required

Minimum of eight years of experience in estate planning, representing high-net-worth individuals and trusts on estate, income, and gift tax planning, and in trust and estate administration

Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and promptly respond to client needs

Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills

Commitment to the legal profession and a teamwork approach

Experience overseeing a team of paralegals is preferred but not required

Compensation

Senior Counsel level: $150,000 – $250,000 per year. The salary range represents the firm’s good faith estimate at posting; actual compensation depends on experience, qualifications, skill set, and office location.

Member level: Compensation is negotiable based on factors mentioned above and potential book of business.
