The Global Site-Reliability-Engineering (SRE) Distribution contract supports the U.S. Air Force’s AFLCMC and the Kessel Run enterprise in delivering resilient, high-availability infrastructure for mission-critical software systems. This program maintains 24/7/365 platform support across CONUS and OCONUS environments focusing on modernization, automation, and DevSecOps enablement. Engineers on this program are responsible for the delivery, evolution, and secure operations of platform services supporting classified workloads on a global scale. The Senior Platform Operations & Modernization Engineer is a key technical role supporting the Honolulu-based team at Hickam AFB. This engineer works closely with the local team lead and a globally distributed platform team to deliver platform modernization, ensure infrastructure reliability, and contribute to secure and scalable operations. While this role does not include direct personnel management, the senior engineer is expected to mentor junior engineers, support collaboration across time zones, and serve as a technical leader and reliable partner to the Hawai‘i team lead. You’ll join a high-performing team that spans multiple time zones and mission sites, working shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers who thrive in fast-moving, agile environments. Together, we troubleshoot complex problems, ship secure infrastructure solutions, and keep classified platforms operational around the clock. Communication, collaboration, and shared ownership are central to our success. This position requires initiative, flexibility, and a continuous improvement mindset to support our DevSecOps environment and evolving mission needs. Deliver high-quality platform support and modernization in classified environments Collaborate with the local team lead and global site leads to ensure reliable operations and continuous coverage Mentor junior team members and model best practices in engineering and DevSecOps execution Participate in team scheduling, incident response, and coordination of infrastructure improvements Guide implementation of Kubernetes-based PaaS solutions and CI/CD workflows Contribute to cross-functional collaboration with design, product, and infrastructure leads Ensure accurate documentation and support continuous improvement efforts Supervisory and Qualifications
SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Mentor other Platform Services Engineers DoD 8570 Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE) Education, Background, and Experience
At least 2 years of experience mentoring agile teams as team leads or managing personnel At least 2 years facilitating extreme programming or lean product development At least 5 years of experience working with multiple Cloud or On Premise infrastructures (such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, VMware, Openshift, Linux and Windows) At least 5 years deploying, configuring and administering PaaS solutions such as Cloud Foundry, Tanzu Kubernetes Grid or Elastic Kubernetes Service at a global scale At least 5 years of experience building, maintaining, securing, and/or integrating classified systems and services for DoD Networks including but not limited to SIPR/JWICS/Coalition Demonstrated experience with software incident response, security best practices and DevOps execution on large scale projects spanning multiple data centers or availability zones Understanding of event-sourced, microservice, and multi-tenant architectures Five-plus (5+) years of experience developing and maintaining containerized services deployed in production on orchestration platforms such as Cloud Foundry or Kubernetes Five-plus (5+) years of experience responding to and troubleshooting high impact software outages and failures Five-plus (5+) years of experience building and supporting production platform services using Cloud Infrastructure Providers or Local Infrastructure such as Vsphere Five-plus (5+) years of experience in Identity and Access Lifecycle Management Operations and Controls Five-plus (5+) years of experience working in Operations, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering Resume demonstrates deep understanding of modern microservices architectures, cloud-native design patterns, resiliency techniques, and delivery optimizations Additional Skills & Qualifications
