Overview
Senior Commercial Counsel at Abcam, a Danaher operating company, providing broad and often complex legal support to the global business. Report directly to Abcam’s General Counsel and based at Abcam’s Waltham, MA site. Role works with associates at all levels and across multiple functions, including Commercial (sales, marketing and business development), Product (development and management), Operations (supply chain, manufacturing, EH&S, real estate, etc.), and Compliance and Enablement (QARA/MAPPS, etc.). Join a team focused on building a fantastic legal function within the Danaher Life Sciences group and helping Abcam grow its legal offering. Responsibilities
Serve as a primary legal and compliance contact at Abcam’s Waltham site in the US, leading a team that includes a contracts manager and paralegal to build efficient contracting processes through CLM and drive continuous process improvements. Lead the global sales and business development legal support, negotiating and drafting MSAs, custom development agreements, supply agreements, licenses, collaboration agreements, research agreements, and related documents. Partner with specialist attorneys within Abcam/Danaher and externally on IP, employment, regulatory, compliance, M&A, joint ventures/strategic partnerships, and manage US-based disputes, including litigations. Develop and provide training for the global business on legal issues, policies, and procedures; represent the Legal function in leadership meetings and contribute to developing good business conduct at Abcam. Essential requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Minimum of 7 years of practice as a U.S.-licensed attorney, ideally a combination of law firm and in-house experience, preferably in the life sciences industry. Ability to manage a global client base and calendar, balance cross-functional matters, and prioritize according to business needs. Strong leadership qualities, strategic thinking, and mentoring/people development capabilities. Excellent communication skills to work effectively with associates at all levels, with a service-oriented, business-minded approach to the practice of law. Team player with a collaborative, can-do attitude and willingness to learn. Preferred qualifications
Experience identifying process gaps, implementing process improvements, and creating standard work to drive improvements. Experience drafting and implementing policies and procedures and creating agreement templates. A degree or higher in a natural sciences discipline is advantageous but not essential. Travel
