Location: University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) - Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The HR Partner Manager will collaborate with HR leaders across UAB Medicine (including UAB Hospital, Heersink School of Medicine, and the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation).

Compensation & Salary Range

This position is assigned to Wage Grade W385 with a compensation range of $73,945 – $120,165 annually (midpoint $96,130). Final offers will be made within this grade range based on the candidate’s qualifications, education, internal equity, and the department’s budgeted amount for the role. Applicants whose stated salary expectations fall outside the posted grade range may not be considered.

Summary of Role

The Human Resources Partner Manager will independently lead and manage HR services for a large, complex academic or administrative unit, working closely with executive leadership. In the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the primary executive leader is the Executive Administrator; the HR Partner Manager will also collaborate with the OBGYN Chair. This role coordinates strategic HR initiatives and ensures the effective execution of core HR functions in a fast-paced environment. The HR Partner Manager serves as the internal HR liaison with Central HR and provides expertise in recruitment, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, services, and equity coordination. This role is the first point of contact for unit-specific HR issues and is responsible for communicating HR policies, managing internal HR processes, and overseeing the implementation of new HR initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a strategic HR advisor to unit leadership and internal stakeholders.

Manage day-to-day HR operations and partner closely with Central HR to ensure alignment and compliance.

Lead, communicate, and implement HR initiatives, policies, and process changes.

Supervise internal HR processes and maintain full documentation according to UAB policies.

Develop, update, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for HR within the unit.

Serve as an internal consultant on employee relations, staffing strategies, performance management, and workforce planning.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university HR policies and regulations.

Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s degree in any discipline required; degrees in Human Resources, Business, or related fields are preferred. Selection will emphasize demonstrated, relevant experience. Note: Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.

Experience:

Minimum of ten (10) years of related human resources experience in areas such as:

HR operations in complex organizational settings

Employee relations or labor relations

Compensation or classification

Benefits coordination

Strategic workforce planning

HR compliance or policy development

Preferred Skills

Strong strategic thinking and organizational awareness

Demonstrated leadership in HR project management or policy implementation

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Familiarity with enterprise-level HR systems (e.g., Taleo, Oracle, PeopleSoft)

Experience in higher education or public sector HR environments
