Overview Arlo Hotels, an independent lifestyle hotel, is seeking a dynamic Director of Finance. Provides leadership, direction, support, training, development, and supervision to the Finance Department and is responsible for its day-to-day operation. Responsible for the accounting and financial requirements of the hotel and will provide financial support, analysis, and advice to the GM and the hotel team to take the business forward. The individual will ensure that procedures in other areas of the hotel comply with Arlo Hotels' Financial Policies & Procedures. The individual will work closely with all departments, particularly those involved in revenue generation and cash handling.

Provide leadership and support the team in achieving departmental goals and objectives. Be responsible for the balance sheet and ensure it aligns with the company policy. Work with all employees professionally and courteously. Supervise the daily activities of all accounting team members and ensure team member evaluations are prepared bi-quarterly for all direct reports. Ensure the work environment is safe, clean, and organized. Build strong relations with other hotel departments and team members. Monitor time and attendance records of all accounting team members. Ensure timely dispatch of all reports as indicated on the Reports Schedule. Supervise the archiving of accounting records and coordinate disposition of records listing; ensure records are moved to the warehouse when appropriate. Maintain accurate accounting records and assist in producing financial reports for the hotel. Ensure the balance sheet reflects the hotel’s assets and liabilities. Assist in developing best practices for financial accounting and control procedures. Oversee the preparation of the annual plan, various financial reports, and analysis as requested by the home office or ownership; manage monthly and quarterly forecasts; manage cash flow and maintain hotel bank accounts. Ensure proper use and maintenance of financial IT systems, analyze daily revenues and audit revenue adjustments; ensure timely dispatch of all reports. Ensure that guest issues/complaints receive prompt attention and follow-up. Ensure effective communication between the hotel and clients regarding billing and collection. Ensure operating costs are properly managed by department heads and in line with forecasted revenue to protect GOP; evaluate monthly production reports and monitor results in relation to goals; complete Profit and Loss reviews with all Department Heads. Maintain a framework of internal controls to protect assets, liabilities, revenue, and costs; ensure monthly checklists are completed. Ensure regular forecasting cycles and circulation of relevant reports. Utilize KPIs and benchmarking to improve hotel performance. Facilitate regularly scheduled credit meetings with management and ensure the collection of payments due to the hotel. Specific Duties

Accounting Functions Organize and prepare the Annual Operating and Capital Budget. Adhere to deadlines and reporting requirements from Owners, Home Office, and Department Heads. Review, approve, and sign items on a timely basis with supporting documentation: petty cash vouchers, gift certificate vouchers, accounts payable reports; check numerical sequence control; prepare month-end journal entries; coordinate internal and external audits; follow up on issues with explanations as required; monitor and follow up on returned checks and reconcile accordingly. Internal Audit Requirements Ensure journal entries have supporting documentation or references. Review latest month-end, trial balance, and investigate material items; ensure clearance accounts are zeroed monthly and no unusual entries exist. Monthly review of outstanding purchase orders/requests; cancel items no longer required. Quarterly audits on all inventory items; conduct occasional audits of accounting team members with a report used in evaluations. Requirements Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: University Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma 5-8 Years in a Controller / Director of Finance Position Previous experience in the hospitality industry or another accounting role is an asset Knowledge of Opera (PMS), Micros (POS), Microsoft Excel, ADP, and Oracle Fusion is an asset Excellent communication and organizational skills Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities Equal Employment Opportunity Arlo Hotels is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
