The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) at Iowa State University is seeking a Clerk III to support its Receiving/Sample Processing section. This is a great opportunity to contribute to a nationally accredited lab that processes over 127,000 submissions and conducts more than 1.7 million tests annually.
What You’ll Do:
Receive and prepare animal specimens (e.g., tissues, blood, serum, oral fluids, feces, urine) for diagnostic testing.
Accurately enter client and specimen data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Perform clerical tasks requiring knowledge of both assigned and related work areas.
Operate computers, terminals, and standard office equipment.
Interface with lab technicians, veterinarians, and other diagnostic staff to ensure smooth sample flow and data accuracy.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Location: On-site at Iowa State University, Ames, IA

The ISU VDL is a full-service, nationally accredited diagnostic laboratory that plays a critical role in animal health, public safety, and veterinary education. As part of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the lab supports missions of service, teaching, and research. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of office routines and functions sufficient to refer visitors and telephone calls and to route correspondence by name and functional area.
• Knowledge of institutional and unit policies, processes and forms.
• Knowledge of proper format, grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization.
• Skill in utilizing computer software packages and online systems.
• Skill in operating office equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and the public.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and apply institutional and other policies accurately.
• Ability to gather, evaluate, and display data in appropriate format and keep accurate records.
• Ability to exercise functional supervision over employees.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
