Your role as a UPK Teacher Assistant

As a UPK Teacher Assistant at Our Children's Place, you will play a crucial role in fostering the growth and development of young learners through structured routines and nurturing care. Your day will begin with the morning prep, setting up the classroom, warmly greeting children, and assisting with transitions, ensuring each child feels dignified and cared for during toileting routines. Throughout the day, you'll support engaging learning and play activities, from circle time to small group interactions, while promoting social-emotional growth in a safe environment. During meal and rest times, you'll assist with snack and lunch, guiding children through bathroom breaks and helping them settle down for their rest period.

As the day wraps up, you’ll facilitate end-of-day routines, communicate with families, and reset the classroom for the following day. UPK Teacher Assistants are calm, reliable, and deeply committed to nurturing children's physical, emotional, and developmental needs, making a lasting impact on their early educational journey.

What you need to be successful

To thrive in the role of a UPK Teacher Assistant at Our Children's Place, candidates must possess a solid understanding of early childhood development principles, OCFS regulations, and Quality Stars standards. Familiarity with positive behavior guidance and effective classroom management is essential, as is the adherence to health and safety protocols, including toileting and hygiene procedures. Successful candidates will demonstrate respect and hygiene skills when assisting with potty training and changing soiled clothing. Strong communication abilities are crucial for effectively engaging with children, families, and team members.

The ideal applicant will exhibit patience, empathy, and emotional regulation, particularly in high-demand settings. A commitment to following daily routines and facilitating smooth transitions is necessary, alongside flexibility to collaborate effectively with the team. Accurate documentation of incidents, behaviors, and developmental observations is also required, as is the physical stamina to actively engage and support children throughout the day.
