General function

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Sales Representative for ophthalmic instruments is a territory manager responsible for achievement of sales objectives and customer account management for a defined geographic area. Responsibilities include frequent direct engagement with eye care professionals to support existing customers and to add new customers to the territory through business development activities intended to create new sales opportunities and achieve sales objectives.

This role requires expert knowledge of the Essilor Instruments product portfolio, the company’s competitors, and how the solutions/services the company provides can benefit the customer. It also requires thorough knowledge of the customer market in the territory.

Major duties and responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with all customers in the territory, frequently interacting with them to grow market share and achieve sales objectives.
  • Define customer/account priorities based on company initiatives and knowledge of customer activity in the territory; classify customer targets into A/B/C based on potential or influence.
  • Maintain and manage an active pipeline of potential sales opportunities.
  • Create, maintain, and provide sales forecasts and territory sales plans as requested.
  • Meet with customers, discuss business needs, perform product demos, demonstrate value, differentiate from competitors, and achieve sales objectives.
  • Maintain all territory information in the company CRM and/or other required applications.
  • Support and facilitate solutions for customers, coordinating with colleagues as needed to resolve issues.
  • Represent the company at industry events or trade shows, identify regional events, and recommend participation to management to generate new opportunities.
  • Gain a deep understanding of customer experience and share feedback with colleagues.
  • Scope and prioritize activities based on business and customer impact, including visits to customer locations, cold calling, and identifying opportunities in the territory.

Basic qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in a sales role.
  • Track record of achievement of sales objectives.
  • Strong relationship builder with integrity, responsiveness, and reliability.
  • Strong territory, customer, and time management skills with minimal direction.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and willingness to do what’s necessary to get the job done efficiently and ethically.
  • Ability to travel 80% of the time to visit customers and attend events.

Preferred qualifications

  • 2 years of sales experience in the ophthalmic industry with knowledge of and relationships with customers in the territory.

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills, and local minimum wage requirements.
