Duration of Contract: 6 month contract to hire

Hybrid: 3 days onsite - flexible as to what days. Would like at least 1 day the same for all team members

Must Haves:

  • Experience: 3 - 5 years of experience in an industry accounting, public accounting, or internal auditing role.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is preferred. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge of SEC requirements, GAAP and new accounting pronouncements.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Excel.
  • Ability to manipulate data to drive and expedite project analyses and completion

Pluses:

  • Previous experience in a retail environment and use of SAP is a plus.
  • Experience with Alteryx, Power BI, TM1, or Tableau is a plus but not required.
  • Professional Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Knowledge of Inventory experience

Day to Day:

The Senior Accountant – Inventory & Process Optimization is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of inventory and financial records across stores, distribution centers, and third-party logistics providers. This role requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams and third-party inventory service providers to drive inventory control improvements, ensure compliance, and support accurate financial reporting. A key focus will be leading initiatives to streamline processes, mitigate shrink, and enhance overall inventory accuracy through continuous process improvements and analytics-driven insights.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee inventory accounting activities, including reconciliation of perpetual inventory to general ledger across stores, DCs, and third-party logistics (3PLs).
  2. Partner with third-party inventory service providers to manage and optimize the store-level physical inventory count process, including self-count programs.
  3. Develop, implement, and improve inventory control procedures and accounting processes to increase accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  4. Perform monthly close activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis tied to inventory reserves, shrink, and vendor compliance.
  5. Analyze inventory transactions and movement data to identify discrepancies, root causes, and opportunities for automation or policy refinement.
  6. Participate in the planning, testing, and implementation of system enhancements related to inventory (e.g., SAP, POS, WMS integrations).
  7. Prepare and review internal financial reports, metrics dashboards, and executive summaries. Respond to inquiries regarding data accuracy from operational, field, and SSC teams.
  8. Support SOX and audit compliance by reviewing and performing key inventory-related internal controls.
  9. Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Operations, IT, Merchandising, Finance) to support projects including new process rollouts, inventory reconciliation enhancements, and system upgrades.
  10. Lead or support cross-functional process improvement initiatives leveraging Lean principles or Six Sigma tools.
