Job Summary
The Security Guard / Public Safety Ambassadors protect and guard University property (both clinical and nonclinical); maintain order among the public and the UCSF community; monitor and control entry to restricted areas; inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents, and other hazards; direct visitors and answer questions concerning building and/or exhibit layouts. The job will involve the ability to push and pull up to 25 pounds; stand and walk for extended periods; carry and lift 21-30 pounds and run short distances. Note: This is a part-time (40%), limited position where you will be employed for a 12-month duration. You will be issued a work schedule weekly, but will also be asked to work "on-call", if/when available. In addition, when hired will need to be available to work full-time for a two-week duration, to include working various shifts and weekends. After training is complete, the position will return to part-time (40% = approx. 16 hours per week), and we have a flexible work schedule.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- General PC knowledge and demonstrated proficiency using MS Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Excellent customer service and effective problem-solving skills; ability to fluently speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English
- Demonstrated ability to work calmly under stress in emergencies; sound judgment skills
- Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability
Note: Physical/health screening, fingerprinting, and background checks are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years of experience in the security field
- Military experience
License/Certification
- License: Valid and unrestricted California Driver’s License- Class C (required)
- Certification: BSIS (Guard Card) Certification (completed within one year from date of hire)
