Job Summary
The Security Guard / Public Safety Ambassadors protect and guard University property (both clinical and nonclinical); maintain order among the public and the UCSF community; monitor and control entry to restricted areas; inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents, and other hazards; direct visitors and answer questions concerning building and/or exhibit layouts. The job will involve the ability to push and pull up to 25 pounds; stand and walk for extended periods; carry and lift 21-30 pounds and run short distances. This is a part-time (40%), limited position for 12 months. You will be issued a work schedule weekly and may be asked to work on-call when available. You may also be required to work full-time for a two-week duration, including various shifts and weekends. After training, the position returns to part-time (40% ≈ 16 hours per week) with a flexible schedule.
Effective 10/17/23: We are offering a new hire sign-on bonus of $500 to all external hires that have not been employed by a UC in the last 12 months!
The final salary and offer components are subject to UC policy. Your placement within the salary range depends on work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The hourly rate for this position is $29.87. Note: This position does not offer benefits.
Department Description
The UCSF Police Department provides contemporary police services including criminal investigation, community policing, crime prevention and suppression, emergency management, and site security services to a daily population of over 60,000 people at University and contract locations. Founded in 1864, UCSF includes the 107-acre Parnassus campus that is home to graduate professionals in dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy; a graduate division for pre- and postdoctoral scientists; UCSF Medical Center; UCSF Children\'s Hospital; and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute. UCSF is one of the nation\'s premier health sciences teaching, training, and research centers. UCSF is the only UC campus dedicated exclusively to the health sciences. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- General PC knowledge and proficiency with MS Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills; ability to fluently speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- Ability to work calmly under stress in emergencies; sound judgment.
- Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability.
Note: Physical/health screening, fingerprinting, and background checks are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years of experience in the security field.
- Military experience.
License/Certification
- License: Valid and unrestricted California Driver\'s License - Class C (required).
- Certification: BSIS (Guard Card) Certification (completed within one year from date of hire).
