Your role
We are seeking a new member to join our diverse team and bring leadership to the HR function for the United States from our state-of-the-art New York Executive Briefing Center, located in Midtown Manhattan. In this role, you will collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry as they work to develop and promote a world-class product for our customers. As the HR Director, you will be dedicated to excellence, playing a crucial role in cultivating and advancing Global Relay’s culture and organizational processes. You will bring leadership to all aspects of the HR function and work to significantly enhance employee engagement.

Your job
You will report directly to the VP, Human Resources and collaborate with the global HR team to align local practices with global objectives. This role encompasses full responsibility for all US HR operations. You should bring strong strategic thinking, extensive HR knowledge, and meticulous attention to detail to shape the US people strategy while maintaining operational excellence and regulatory compliance. You will have extensive experience in managing large-scale hiring, a broad professional network, and a passion for fostering an engaging culture.
Your responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the employee lifecycle in the US—including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance reviews, compensation planning, and offboarding.
- Ensure full compliance with state and US federal employment laws.
- Lead US recruiting operations in collaboration with the global Recruitment team to support rapid growth while maintaining quality and diversity.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on workforce planning, team structure, performance, and retention.
- Partner with HR leaders in Canada and the United Kingdom to align processes and ensure global consistency.
- Conduct annual benefits plan reviews and renewals with US providers and the benefits broker.
- Oversee immigration requirements and visa/work permit/PR/Green Card applications for employees.
- Keep policies up to date, proactively identify legal risk, and ensure documentation and processes are audit-ready.
- Manage HR systems and ensure accurate data, policies, and procedures for compliance and reporting.
- Lead initiatives that foster an inclusive, high-performance culture and reinforce company values through onboarding, communication, and employee programming.
- Leverage your network to build new talent pipelines through strategic partnerships and sourcing channels.
About you
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior-level or director role.
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field required; Master’s or HR certification (SPHR/SHRM-SCP) is an asset.
- Experience in building and growing an HR team and leading high-volume recruitment in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience collaborating with global HR teams and aligning regional HR practices with global strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of New York and federal employment law and HR compliance.
- Exceptional attention to detail in documentation, systems, and process execution.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with comfort navigating ambiguity.
- Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
- Track record of building culture and improving employee experience and engagement at all levels.
- Well-connected within the recruiting and HR community; experience in the high-tech industry is a plus.
Compensation and benefits
Compensation: Base salary range is $140,000 - $200,000 USD. Global Relay discloses pay in compliance with applicable laws; final pay is determined by factors including experience, skills, and education. The base salary is one element of a comprehensive total rewards package that includes health benefits (extended coverage and disability), vacation accrual, paid sick days, parental leave, commuter benefits, potential bonuses, and a 401(k) with company matching. For NY-based roles, there are additional perks including a subsidized meal program.
