Overview
Social Worker: Ongoing CPS Unit – Washington County, West Bend, Wisconsin. Full-time position under the general supervision of the Family Services Supervisor. The Ongoing CPS Social Worker provides child welfare services as defined in Chapter 48 of the Wisconsin State Statutes and in accordance with Wisconsin Ongoing Services Standards. The primary role is to engage families in a positive working relationship to achieve a safe, stable home and permanence for children.
Compensation and Benefits: Starting salary $60,120.00 – $74,022.12 (based on experience); comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and life insurance; Short Term and Long Term Disability; Medical and Dependent Flexible Spending Accounts; Wisconsin Retirement System and Wisconsin Deferred Compensation (IRS 457); Holidays and Paid Time Off (PTO); fitness center and tuition reimbursement.

Responsibilities
- Evaluate child safety through continuous case assessment, oversight, and adjustment of safety plans by engaging families in the case planning process to address threats to child safety and achieve timely legal permanence and safe case closure for all CPS cases.
- Provide written documentation to the court regarding mandated services and provide testimony as required. Collaborate with collateral contacts such as probation, schools, and mental health providers to monitor case progress.
- Evaluate safety at least monthly during each in-person contact with children, families, placement homes, and providers.
- Ensure every child has a safe, stable, and permanent home prior to case closure. Facilitate permanence by reunification with parents/caregivers, in-home safety, or placement in an alternative permanent living arrangement (which could include legal guardianship transfer or termination of parental rights and adoption).
- Make child safety and case planning decisions per WI Chapter 48, WI Safety Intervention Standards, and WI Ongoing Services Standards. Work independently in the field and seek supervisor guidance as appropriate.
- Interact daily with families, law enforcement, healthcare providers, schools, and other community partners to monitor progress and coordinate services.
- Maintain knowledge of Chapter 48 Children’s Code, Wisconsin State CPS Standards for Ongoing Services and Safety Intervention Standards; understand child development, trauma, mental health, and related social issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program with the ability to be certified as a social worker in Wisconsin within 6 months of hire; or
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field with two years of relevant experience (prioritize candidates with child welfare, youth justice, or mental health experience); or
- Non-social work degree candidates must be willing to complete an accredited social work certificate program within three years and obtain Wisconsin social worker certification within 6 months post-completion.
- A valid Wisconsin driver’s license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance are required.
