Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development (ADoD) oversees all HRM events and volunteer activities, and directly supervises the Event Planner/Lead, Database Administrator, Senior Development Associate (title to be confirmed), and Development Coordinator. The ADoD manages a personal portfolio of donors, leading strategies for cultivating, stewarding, and re-engaging supporters. This role also drives corporate engagement and sponsorship growth in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Prince George’s County, and Montgomery County. The ADoD ensures effective use of Raiser’s Edge (NXT) for accurate data entry, reporting, and stewardship.
Staff Oversight
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Event Planner/Lead: Ensure successful execution of HRM events with growth in ticket sales and sponsorships. Annual events include the Spring SSS, Cabaret, and Adopt-a-Family, Fill the House, the Hank Entwisle Concert, and Major Gift Ramp up (MGRU) events. Senior Development Associate: Oversee the annual October peer-to-peer fundraiser to ensure continued growth. Lead strategies to expand awareness and financial support in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. Successfully steward assigned donor portfolio and ensure consistent entry of activities in Raiser’s Edge (NXT). Development Coordinator: Support growth of the volunteer program to meet agency needs, expand volunteer-to-donor conversions, and steward assigned donors with accurate data entry. Database Administrator: Oversee list segmentation for appeals, timely reporting on direct mail results, donor retention/reactivation metrics, and execution of acknowledgment letters.
Primary Responsibilities
Write and execute three annual direct mail appeals (DVAM/October, SAAM/April, and EOY/December), and email appeals (including legal pro-bono appeal) ensuring year-over-year growth. Lead corporate engagement strategy, including oversight of the October 2026 launch of an annual symposium in partnership with the Training Institute. Collaborate with the Director of Development and MGRU consultant on the launch of the three-year rolling comprehensive campaign (annual, capital, endowment) and oversee successful execution of MGRU annual events. Engage and steward high-wealth prospects assigned through the MGRU model. Identify and cultivate new business sponsors; make direct asks in collaboration with the Senior Development Associate and the Director of Development. Partner with the Grants Manager to identify and prioritize foundation funders and assist with proposal letters as needed. Support the Director of Development in building strong Foundation relationships. Steward assigned donor portfolio with a focus on improving retention rates. Oversee Sr. Development Associate’s strategies to build awareness and financial support in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. Actively contribute to stewardship strategy meetings, recommending and implementing improvements. Participate in bi-weekly grants/finance meetings to align fundraising and stewardship. Participate in Board Development Committee meetings; record and distribute minutes, and schedule meetings. Conduct minimum bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with direct reports and handle direct reports evaluations and disciplinary actions. Update, document, and maintain contingency/back-up plan for Development staff roles.
Measures Of Success
Events are on schedule, on budget, and show year-over-year growth in ticket sales and sponsorships. Successful continuation and annual growth of the October (DVAM) peer-to-peer fundraiser. Direct mail appeals increase in response and revenue year over year. Successful launch and ongoing execution of the three-year rolling MGRU model. Donor retention and acquisition rates improve annually across all segments: individuals, organizations, and foundations. Pay:
$80,000 - $83,232
Experience, Education, Certifications/Licenses
Minimum Bachelor’s degree required. Seven plus years’ experience managing and growing a donor portfolio, with preference for demonstrated success in securing six-figure+ gifts. Three plus years of staff supervision experience. Ability to travel when necessary to engage, and steward donors and solicit prospects. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Ability to understand intimate partner violence and how its impact on survivors. Strong understanding of corporate, and private foundation fundraising environments with focus on Baltimore metropolitan area preferred. Planned Giving Experience preferred. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities. Demonstrated creative and strategic thinking skills. Strong project management and organizational abilities. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Commitment to mission-driven teamwork and advancing the mission of House of Ruth Maryland. Ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including survivors, children, donors, board members, corporate leaders, and colleagues.
