Overview
MedStar Health is seeking an experienced full-time Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. MedStar Washington Hospital Center, located in the heart of our nation's capital, is a teaching hospital with over 900 beds and is a major referral center for medically complex cases. We are a Level I trauma center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, among the top 5% of cardiac surgery programs, and an ECMO referral center. Responsibilities
Work autonomously but collaboratively with intensive care physicians and a large multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality and cost-effective care to patients in critical condition. Manage SICU/MICU patient populations including general surgery and surgical subspecialties (neurosurgery, trauma, thoracic, plastics, orthopedics) as well as stroke and medical patients. Perform history and physical examinations of patients. Establish appropriate medical diagnoses based on patient history, chart review, physical exam, lab testing, and radiographic imaging. Initiate and manage therapeutic interventions for pathologies such as respiratory failure, heart failure, shock, acid-base disturbances, and renal failure. Present patients on daily rounds with the ICU attending and multidisciplinary team. Collaborate with all involved care teams including other consultants. Perform bedside procedures including insertion of central venous, non-tunneled dialysis, and arterial catheters, chest tubes, and thoracentesis. Communicate between healthcare professionals to promote safe patient transitions between shifts, services, and levels of care. Educate and supervise new graduate APPs and students where appropriate. Participate in departmental opportunities such as weekly didactics, monthly journal club, APP practice committee, critical care morbidity & mortality reviews, and various process improvement projects. Contribute to protocol writing and revisions. Requirements
Graduation from an accredited physician assistant or acute care nurse practitioner program. NCCPA (physician assistant) or AGACNP (nurse practitioner) certification. BLS and ACLS certifications. Required: 1 or more years as an advanced practice provider in intensive care. Benefits
