Overview
MedStar Health is seeking an experienced full-time Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. MedStar Washington Hospital Center, located in the heart of our nation’s capital, is a teaching hospital with over 900 beds that is a major referral center in the area for medically complex cases. We are a Level I trauma center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, in the top 5% of cardiac surgery programs in the country as well as an ECMO referral center. In this role, critical care APPs work autonomously but collaboratively with intensive care physicians and a large multidisciplinary care team to provide high quality and cost-effective care to patients in critical condition. We are currently seeking an APP for the SICU/MIC patient population, including general surgery and surgical subspecialties such as neurosurgery, trauma, thoracic, plastics, orthopedics, as well as stroke and medical patients. Responsibilities
Perform history and physical examination of patients. Establish appropriate medical diagnoses based on patient history, chart review, physical exam, lab testing, and radiographic imaging. Initiate and manage appropriate therapeutic interventions for pathologies including respiratory failure, heart failure, shock, acid-base disturbances, and renal failure. Present patients on daily rounds with the ICU attending and multidisciplinary team. Collaborate with all involved care teams including other consultants. Perform bedside procedures including insertion of central venous lines, non-tunneled dialysis catheters, arterial catheters, chest tubes, and thoracentesis. Communicate between healthcare professionals to promote safe patient transition between shifts, services, and/or levels of care. Educate and supervise new graduate APPs and students where appropriate. Departmental Opportunities

Graduation from an accredited physician assistant or acute care nurse practitioner program NCCPA (physician assistant) or AGACNP (nurse practitioner) certification BLS and ACLS certifications 1 or more years of experience as an advanced practice provider in intensive care Benefits
