Assistant Director for Sport Performance

As a key member of the Holistic Performance Team, the Assistant Director for Sport Performance will serve as the assistant strength and conditioning coach and is responsible for establishing and maintaining strength and conditioning programs for all assigned sports, while collaborating and executing with a greater team of performance professionals to achieve optimal performance outcomes for student-athletes. This responsibility includes but is not limited to injury reduction, creating a safe training environment, improving athletic performance, teaching technique, supervising training sessions, motivating student-athletes, mobility/recovery training, continuing education, assisting teams, student-athlete testing/evaluation. This position will collaborate and work cooperatively with coaches, athletic trainers, performance team members, university partners in performance, and athletic department staff. The Assistant Director for Sport Performance is responsible for maintaining the Dan Rea ’70 Boston State College Varsity Training Facility and for upholding the mission, core values, standards, policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the facility. This position will serve as a member of the Holistic Performance Team and will support the development and implementation of UMass Boston’s Holistic Performance Program. The program is designed to enhance individual student-athlete and team performance through a collaborative and integrated approach. The Holistic Performance Program incorporates sports medicine, athletic training, strength and conditioning, sports science, sports dietetics, and mental health/well-being. Holistic Performance Team goals

Establish and evolve a cross-collaborative, unified Holistic Performance Team. Provide data-informed, holistic care to student-athletes. Cultivate partnerships to maximize program resources. The Assistant Director for Sport Performance will contribute directly to these goals and play an integral role in advancing the mission of the Holistic Performance Program. Examples Of Duties

Report to and assist the Associate Athletic Director for Sport Performance & Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in creating a culture where student-athletes are positioned to succeed and develop in their sport to provide a great student-athlete experience. Uphold and promote the mission, vision, and core values of UMass Boston Athletics and Recreation in all programs, services, and interactions. Design and implement strength training, speed & agility, and conditioning programs for in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all assigned sports, based on science and experience (including strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning, mobility, recovery, return to play). Assist with the development, implementation, and execution of the Holistic Performance Program to achieve goals and KPIs. Responsible for using Hawkin Dynamics force plates to assess key performance metrics and integrate this data into individualized training programs, track progress, and collaborate with coaches and athletic trainers to optimize athlete performance. Track student-athlete data to monitor progression/regression, fatigue, return-to-play protocols to optimize performance. Promote the overall health and wellness of student-athletes. Teach and demonstrate proper exercise techniques. Work with coaches and sports medicine staff in rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes. Provide general weight room supervision and maintain equipment to ensure a clean and safe workspace. Mentor interns and support staff development and continuing education. Implement and track testing protocols for speed, agility, conditioning, strength, and power. Schedule make-up lifts for student-athletes. Requires early mornings, late nights, holidays. Motivate, inspire, and mentor student-athletes. Attend meetings and assist with managing sport science club/team. Manage and create content for Holistic Performance Program social media accounts. Ability to safely lift and carry objects weighing over 100 lbs. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook for creating reports and managing communications. Maintain knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and report compliance considerations to the appropriate supervisor. Other duties as assigned within the mission of UMass Boston. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field required. Master’s degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred. CSCS (NSCA) or CSCCa certification required. At least one year of experience as a strength and conditioning coach (including graduate assistantships). One completed strength and conditioning internship. CPR & AED Certified. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks professionally. Application Instructions
