The primary location for this position can be Titusville, NJ; Cambridge, MA; Spring House, PA, or La Jolla, CA. This position will require up to 25% travel. This role will direct and lead efforts to bring innovative approaches to the use of Data Science in late-stage Oncology Clinical Development Teams (CDTs) with a specific focus on the cell therapy portfolio. The position will serve as the Data Science Lead for clinical-stage cell therapy programs, such as Carvykti. Primary responsibilities are to identify and deliver Data Science capabilities to achieve CDT goals in a value-driven manner. Additional responsibilities include capability and talent development, resource management and deployment, and supporting an organizational culture that promotes data-driven decision-making across all functions of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine – R&D Oncology. You will be a thought leader within J&J R&D in the field of applied use of advanced analytics methodologies (e.g., statistical modeling, AI/ML) in the drug development process for areas such as immune cell profiling and clinical phenotyping. Success in this role will entail identifying novel applications for advanced analytics and high-dimensional data in the drug development process, such as identifying, procuring and curating suitable data sets, designing elegant analytic solutions and organizing diverse teams to execute analytic efforts. Broad knowledge of drug development, clinical trials and Data Science methodologies and technologies are important in achieving success. Creativity to invent and customize will be necessary. The Applicant Will Be responsible for partnering with cross functional Compound Development Teams for clinical-stage cell therapy in building and implementing Data Science plans to support clinical/research objectives throughout the drug development lifecycle. Data Science applications will include Real-World Evidence, cell profiling, clinical phenotyping, computer vision/medical imaging that leverage technologies such as statistical methodologies, AI/Machine learning techniques (e.g. Generative AI). Actively manage and communicate Data Science plans for CDTs. This will include seeking and managing feedback with internal and external stakeholders and develop fit-for-purpose studies serving CDT objectives. Develop data, analytic and reporting requirements for Data Science-related projects for the CDTs. This will include both regulatory-grade and observational research. Identify and procure data sets and technologies for bespoke applications. Manage external partnerships. Work with clinical and Data Science teams and external partners to execute analytics and report results. The candidate will be responsible for liaising with external partners including regulatory agencies. The candidate will be responsible for communicating and interpreting scientific results, as well as projecting implications of Data Science research. Qualifications Advanced degree in Health Science (Ph.D or MD) or Masters Degree, PharmD with equivalent work experience with high-dimensional data sets. A background in computational research, pharmaco-epidemiology, statistics, outcomes research or related field in health care area. 10+ years of health-care related research, such as disease/clinical phenotyping, clinical genomics, outcomes research. Strong working knowledge of drug development, with established expertise with multiple components of drug development, such as translational research, clinical studies, or regulatory interactions. Working knowledge of advanced analytic methods, such as statistical modeling, biostatistics, machine learning, and/or other relevant techniques. Familiarity with healthcare relevant datasets, such as EHR/RWD, genomics, insurance claims. Capacity to manage timelines and drive key deliverables in a matrix environment. Established leadership skills, including management of individuals and teams working towards common clinical/scientific goals. Prior experience working and driving external partnerships, either corporate or academic. Ability to effectively communicate technical work to a wide audience. Prior experience serving on multifunctional teams delivering clinical trials in an R&D or Medical Affairs setting. Preferred Experience with Oncology research, notably novel cell therapies. Proficiency with regulatory submissions and interaction. Experience with emerging, innovative approaches to drug development, such as Generative AI.
