Plant General Manager - Automotive – Akron, OH
Overview The Plant General Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all plant operations to ensure that customer requirements are consistently met on time and at the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. This role drives operational excellence, continuous improvement, and profitability by managing plant activities, aligning financial performance with business objectives, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all operational activities to ensure safety, quality, and production schedules are consistently achieved.
Manage the plant’s P&L, ensuring performance is at or below budget while meeting customer and business requirements.
Analyze plant budgets and identify opportunities for cost reductions and efficiency improvements.
Develop, monitor, and manage KPI metrics to achieve operational targets.
Direct changes in production methods, planning, and processing to meet or exceed forecasts and control costs.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies, fostering a culture of workplace safety.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging Lean, TPS, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
Lead proactive customer engagement, resolving issues effectively and maintaining strong client relationships.
Guide the professional development of operational leaders and promote a high-performance culture.
Develop and execute manufacturing strategies that align with financial, customer service, and operational goals.
Support and lead new program launches, ensuring seamless integration into production.
Motivate, delegate, and empower teams to achieve operational excellence while maintaining accountability.
Qualifications
Proven experience and demonstrated success managing large, complex automotive manufacturing operations
Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA)
P&L management experience with a strong understanding of financial reporting (profit/loss statements & balance sheets)
Lean Manufacturing / Toyota Production System (TPS) training or certification
Track record of delivering continuous improvement results
Demonstrated ability to select, develop, and lead high-performing professional staff
Knowledge of TS-16949 policies and procedures
New Program Launch experience
Strong decision-making, interpersonal, and leadership skills
