Position Summary
The Paraeducator supports the instructional and behavioral needs of students in school settings. Working under the direction of teachers, specialists, and school administrators, Paraeducators assist with classroom management, individualized instruction, and student engagement. This role is vital in ensuring students—especially those with special education, behavioral, or social-emotional needs—receive the support necessary to succeed academically and personally. Key Responsibilities Provide instructional support to students individually or in small groups, reinforcing lessons introduced by teachers and specialists. Assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, and behavioral intervention plans. Support classroom management by promoting positive behavior strategies and redirecting challenging behaviors. Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and other school settings as assigned. Help prepare instructional materials, organize classroom resources, and support lesson delivery. Assist students with daily living skills, mobility, communication, or adaptive needs as required. Collaborate with teachers, mental health staff, and school administrators to foster inclusive and supportive learning environments. Document and report student progress, challenges, and observations to supervising staff. Model positive and respectful interactions that support the social and emotional development of students. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all school district and F.A.C.E.S. policies and procedures. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or completion of 48 college units preferred. Experience working with children or youth in educational, community, or childcare settings. Knowledge of child development, special education, or behavioral interventions preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to connect with diverse students and families. Patience, empathy, and flexibility when supporting student needs. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school-based team. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Key Competencies Student-focused and compassionate approach.
