Mechanical Engineer – Consumer Products About the Role At Idea House & Co., we design and build real products — taking ideas from concept to working prototypes and production. We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer with 3–5 years of experience who wants to balance CAD design with hands-on prototyping and testing in a collaborative small-team environment. Expected Responsibilities Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks with proper GD&T and tolerance analysis. Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensure designs are manufacturable in plastics and metals. Support prototyping (3D printing, CNC, and shop builds) and conduct design testing. Manage BOMs, ECOs, and revision control to maintain accurate project documentation. Collaborate with project leads and engineers to deliver on time and within budget. Initially work behind-the-scenes; grow into supplier and client interaction as the role develops. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field . 3–5 years of consumer product development experience . Proficiency in SolidWorks (Onshape familiarity a plus). Knowledge of injection-molded plastics , light metals, and prototyping methods. Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis . Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Comfortable balancing desk design work with hands-on shop/testing activities.
