Founded in 1980, MCS is fully accredited by the American Montessori Society and Cognia. Our beautifully planned 13-acre wooded campus is located between Durham and Chapel Hill. Position Summary We are seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Communications and Marketing Associate to tell the story of who we are and manage the entire array of school communications. This position will manage and execute the organizations communications strategy across multiple platforms. This full-time role involves both content creation and project management. The ideal candidate brings strong writing and editing skills, visual communication sensibility, and experience managing communications for mission-driven organizations. They will serve as the point person for maintaining consistency, overseeing editorial and design workflows, and ensuring that our message reaches and resonates with both internal and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: Communications Strategy:
Working within the Advancement Team, collaborate with internal teams (Enrollment, Fundraising, Communications) on consistency across written and digital platforms and internal- and external-facing materials. Implement Brand Identity and Value Proposition language and visuals across internal and external communications. Manage and update distribution lists. Editorial and Publications:
Maintain a communications calendar to track school activities, campaigns, enrollment events, and content deadlines. Serve as general editor and project manager for all MCS communications. Manage relationships with any external vendors for advertising, publication, and other deliverables. Written and Digital Media:
Maintain content on the website including updating pages and calendars. Manage Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn pages for MCS. Manage organization email communications and keep all distribution lists up to date. Maintain up to date print materials. Event Communications:
Make design and content decisions for all print and digital material related to various MCS events. Qualifications: Bachelors Degree and at least 3 years of experience in nonprofit or school communications, journalism, content strategy, or a related field. Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and compellingly. Strong project management skills Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress). Proficiency in managing Instagram and Facebook, with an understanding of its use in non-profit engagement. Understanding of visual branding and experience working with photographers, designers, or creative teams. Design, video, and content creation experience is a plus. Highly organized, collaborative, and adaptable, with strong attention to detail. Familiarity with the education sector is a plus; Commitment to Montessori Community Schools mission and inclusive work environment. Ability to collaborate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
