GIS Technician - Alabama Power Distribution Assets

Job#: 2087400 Location: Birmingham, Alabama (Hybrid: Onsite and Remote) Pay: 20-22/HR Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled GIS Technician to support the input, processing, and maintenance of Alabama Power Distribution Lines and Equipment assets within an ESRI GIS database. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in GIS and a passion for utility infrastructure. The position begins with onsite training in Birmingham, AL, and transitions to a primarily remote role post-training. Key Responsibilities:

Input, process, and maintain electric distribution asset data in ESRI GIS databases. Ensure accuracy and consistency of spatial data related to Alabama Powers distribution lines and equipment. Collaborate with team members to support GIS data integrity and project goals. Utilize ESRI ArcGIS software for mapping, analysis, and data management. Assist with CAD-related tasks as needed. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and participate in team meetings and training sessions. Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors degree in Geography, GIS, or a related field; or GIS Certificate; or minimum of 2 years full-time GIS work experience required. Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software required; experience with ArcGIS Pro preferred. Knowledge of Power Distribution systems preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required. Ability to work effectively in a team environment required. Experience with CAD software preferred. Work Schedule and Environment: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday. Shifts may be 8 or 10 hours/day, starting as early as 7:00 AM and ending as late as 5:00 PM. Initial 3-month training period onsite in Birmingham, AL (duration may vary by individual). Post-training, work may be primarily remote with occasional onsite meetings, training, or work. No per diem provided for onsite work; candidates must live within commuting distance of Birmingham, AL. Remote Work Requirements: Stable broadband internet connection (minimum 20 Mbps) capable of supporting remote desktop connections over VPN. Remote work setup is the responsibility of the employee.
