The City of Danbury is announcing an Open Competitive Exam for the position of Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer Information Technology. Responsibilities
Assist the IT Infrastructure Architect Administration and hands-on support of the citys:
enterprise Server & Storage Area Network Systems enterprise Network and VOIP Phone System Equipment/Software Firewall Appliances Cloud based Server Hosting and Backup/Disaster Recovery System Microsoft Active Directory System VMWARE Server Virtualization Systems Horizon View Virtual Desktop System
Work on IT Projects assigned, occasionally supervising vendor resources as needed, keeping stakeholders IT Infrastructure Architect and Director of Technology informed regularly of status As needed, supervise Vendor resources in completion of IT Infrastructure support responsibilities Conduct maintenance and repair on various IT Infrastructure systems, including: computer servers, computer network hardware systems, voice or data network communication systems, and information technology security systems/firewalls Work with and supervise vendor partners/resources as needed to implement repairs Engage in the hands-on deployment, programming adjustment, and integration of network and server systems, including: upgrades/adjustments to VMWARE server virtualization systems, computer file storage systems, firewall appliances, web filtering appliances, application hosting servers, and Microsoft Active Directory Domain Servers Be on the 24/7 on-call rotation as a resource for all IT Infrastructure Systems support; provide on-call 24/7 support as required during system outages Under general direction, design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure Data Center and IT Infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements Design IT infrastructure and application solutions based on general direction from the IT Infrastructure Architect and collected requirements from customer stakeholders Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all Data Center and IT Infrastructure procurement and development efforts Test all aspects of network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining and improving network performance Test IT Infrastructure component performance and provide performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining and improving IT Infrastructure performance Practice IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation As needed provide detailed training for IT Department staff in regard to Technology Infrastructure support Engage in General IT Support as needed backing up the IT Support Desk Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
Education : High School diploma or equivalent Experience : 5 years of work experience in the integration of IT Infrastructure Hardware & Software Systems including: Servers, Storage Area Networks, Firewall Appliances, Network Switch Solutions, VOIP Phone Systems, VMware Server Systems and Microsoft Windows Servers Must have experience with VMware, Microsoft Server and Microsoft Active Directory Must have experience with HPE or Dell Servers, HPE or Dell Storage Area Networks Must have experience with CISCO enterprise switches Must have experience with enterprise level IT Infrastructure Systems and Security Appliances/Firewalls Must have experience with cloud-based server hosting systems Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to train end users on the use of IT systems Thorough working knowledge of enterprise level IT Security Appliances/Firewalls Ability to coordinate application integration projects Ability to work with and manage vendor partners to accomplish integration or/and support of enterprise level application or infrastructure systems Highly proficient with Microsoft Office including advanced Excel functions such as macros and pivot tables Ability to provide general IT Support Strong oral and written communications skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills Ability to balance and prioritize multiple demands and deadlines Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent communication skills; including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely across multiple audiences and partners, including the ability to explain analytical outcomes and technical roadblocks in business terms Ability to work well under pressure, with proven experience working on complex, international, large-scale, time-critical projects Ability to be flexible and versatile in nature, able to take on challenges while maintaining tact and professionalism Special Requirements
Must be available to work on site, full time Be on the 24/7 on-call rotation as a resource for all IT Infrastructure Systems support. Supervision

The examination for this position will consist of an Oral Exam with weight 100%. It is the applicants responsibility to adhere to the Citys testing schedule. Unless otherwise stated, there will be no make-up examinations or alternative examination dates. Orals are scheduled for the week of October 20th, 2025; times and locations will be determined. Reasonable accommodations in testing will be considered upon request through the City of Danbury Human Resources Department by the closing date of applications. Upon certification, an eligibility list will be established and used to fill vacancies as they occur, per Civil Service Rules.
