Fanatics
Staff Software Engineer - Infrastructure & Backend (Golang/DevOps)
Fanatics, Los Angeles, California, United States, 90079
Job Description
Company Background
Join our trailblazing team at the intersection of technology and fan culture. As a growth-focused startup within the Fanatics ecosystem, we're leveraging exclusive rights to merchandise from the MLB, NFL, and NBA. Our live commerce app (Fanatics Live) and Collectibles marketplace (Formerly, PWCC) is positioned to revolutionize the world of collecting. Blending the spirit of a startup with the stability of an industry titan. Our reach to 90+ million fans gives us a launching pad unlike any other to spearhead innovation.
The Role
We are building a multi-product ecosystem - live auctions, real-time buying, streaming, and more - and are looking for a
Staff Software Engineer
to lead efforts in building greenfield products and setting the technical foundations for future growth.
This is a
hybrid role , blending deep DevOps expertise with
low-level backend engineering , with an emphasis on
Golang . You'll play a pivotal role in defining and executing our infrastructure and operations strategy, while also contributing directly to codebases where performance and scalability matter most.
We are seeking someone who not only understands systems at a high level but can also get "closer to the metal," writing code to solve infrastructure and performance problems hands-on - for example, writing custom load testing tools or performance profiling utilities as needed.
If you thrive on boosting developer velocity, optimizing systems, and working in a highly collaborative and technically rigorous environment, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities Code-Driven Infrastructure : Write and maintain infrastructure automation using IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible - with the ability to go beyond templates and scripts when needed. Low-Level Backend Engineering : Build performant, scalable systems and tooling using
Golang , particularly in areas where deep system understanding is critical (e.g., load testing, streaming performance, distributed systems behavior). CI/CD Systems : Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, CircleCI) to support rapid and reliable delivery. Cloud Architecture & Optimization : Architect and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), driving initiatives in cost-efficiency, performance tuning, and reliability. Monitoring & Observability : Implement comprehensive observability through tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Datadog, etc., to ensure reliability and visibility into systems. Developer Velocity : Own and improve developer workflows and tooling to reduce friction and enable high productivity across engineering teams. Security & Compliance : Apply best practices in securing infrastructure and deployment pipelines. Incident Management & Troubleshooting : Lead root cause analysis and remediation efforts for system outages or performance degradations. Technical Leadership & Mentorship : Guide and mentor other engineers, particularly in DevOps and backend performance disciplines. AI Integration : Comfortably utilize AI-driven tools and techniques as part of daily workflows (expected ~30% usage). Qualifications
8+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Backend Infrastructure roles, ideally with a blend of both development and operations experience. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience). Strong
Golang
development experience - preferably building internal tools, system services, or infrastructure automation. Proven ability to write clean, maintainable code to support infrastructure needs (e.g., writing load testing tools, custom monitoring agents, etc.). Deep experience with
CI/CD ,
IaC , and cloud infrastructure in production environments. Familiarity with streaming technologies and large-scale distributed systems is a plus. Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK, etc.). Strong systems knowledge: networking, Linux internals, web servers, and load balancing. Proficiency with scripting languages like Python, Bash, etc. Security-conscious and up to date with best practices in cloud and system security. Strong advocate for modern engineering workflows (Agile, trunk-based development, etc.). Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset. Ability to be on-call for emergencies.
The salary range for this position is $172,000 - $258,000, which represents base pay only and does not include short-term or long-term incentive compensation. When determining base pay, as part of a final compensation package, we consider several factors such as location, experience, qualifications, and training.
Ensure your Fanatics job offer is legitimate and don't fall victim to fraud. Fanatics never seeks payment from job applicants. Feel free to ask your recruiter for a phone call or other type of communication for interview, and ensure your communication is coming from a Fanatics email address (including @collectfanatics.com). For added security, where possible, apply through our company website at www.fanaticsinc.com/careers
