Be part of making an impact in public health alongside dedicated people just like you All Coastal Health District County Health Department employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours. Job Responsibilities

Under broad supervision, performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of the physician on duty. Handles front office duties which include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing and coding for insurance purposes. Assists in the clinic by taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination and drawing blood. Records patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records. Performs front office duties which include patient intake, screening, taking payments, answering the telephone and scheduling appointments. Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Interviews patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. Prepares and administers medications as directed by a physician. Shows patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician. Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients. Collects blood or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing. May train subordinate staff in proper procedures of day-to-day operations Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university with two (2) years of experience in a related field; or High School diploma/GED and three (3) years of experience in medical assisting; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Medical Assistant 2 (HCT101) or position equivalent Preferred Qualifications-2+ years in a Public Health or Outpatient Clinic setting preferred. Strong knowledge of infectious disease, HIV/AIDS, and STD risk factors, medical implications and treatment options. Additional Information
