Accounting Technician III
The Utah National Guard is looking for a part-time Accounting Technician III (may underfill as an Accounting Technician II or I). This recruitment is for eligible Return Utah candidates only. The Return Utah program is a formal career reentry program, designated for Utahns reentering the workforce after a career break. The program is tied to the state job you are applying for, meaning that along with a new role and traditional on-the-job training, candidates hired will receive 16 weeks of transitional support (which includes an office technology review, coaching, career development opportunities, mentorship, networking opportunities, and job market readiness training). Career break reasoning is irrelevant. To be eligible for Return Utah, candidates must: 1. Have prior professional/life experience and/or qualifying skills suitable for the job's functional area of interest and, 2. A career break of one year or more at the time of application or, 3. Confirm military affiliation (as a service member, veteran, spouse or partner) or, 4. Be underemployed at the time of application. This is a temporary position providing employment and transitional support for 16 weeks of employment. Please note, that while we will provide access to resources that will enable you to explore further employment opportunities, your participation does not guarantee employment with the State of Utah upon conclusion of the program. Salary Information: The Accounting Technician III position is $14.69 to $24.60. If the position is underfilled, the salary will be adjusted based on the specific job level: Accounting Technician II:
The salary range is $13.92 to $22.05. Accounting Technician I:
The salary range is $13.17 to $19.79. Principle Duties: In all three roles, the incumbent is responsible for preparing and processing a variety of accounting documents and transactions. This includes maintaining accounts and performing accounting activities such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, revenues, taxes, and audit research. Additional duties shared across all three positions include: Reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy. Performing adjustments to data and accounts. Preparing reports. Creating, filing, and retrieving files. Supporting professional staff such as accountants, budget officers, and auditors. An ideal candidate for the Accounting Technician position would have a strong foundation in accounting principles and a meticulous approach to their work. Essential Skills and Qualities: Detail-Oriented: The job requires reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy, performing adjustments, and reconciling discrepancies. A successful candidate must be highly organized and have a keen eye for detail to ensure all financial records are precise. Accountability: The role involves preparing and processing a variety of accounting documents and transactions. The ability to take responsibility for tasks and be proactive in resolving errors is crucial. Technical Proficiency: Candidates should be comfortable with data entry into computer systems and be able to retrieve, correct, or delete previously entered data. Familiarity with common accounting software is a plus. Strong Communication: The job involves preparing reports, drafting correspondence, and responding to questions from both internal staff and external inquiries. The ideal person can explain policies and procedures clearly and effectively. Preference may be given to those who have experience working on both federal and state accounts.
