Health Office Assistant
There are several vacancies in both regular and bilingual Spanish. An eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies and hire substitutes for the next six months. Typical hours for the position are five (5) hours a day, ten (10) months a year. Health Office Assistant is a modification of the official classification title of Health Assistant. The change was made to assist with attracting more applicants to this recruitment. You will be tested for your ability to speak and read in the second language as part of the testing process. SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provides health care services to students by listening to concerns and making preliminary findings; identifying problems and providing basic first aid techniques; calls for professional assistance as needed; maintains related health records; assists nurses in screening students for various health concerns; advises parents of legal requirements such as immunizations and available community services. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The class of Health Assistant is distinguished from the class of Office Assistant in that while both perform routine clerical duties, the latter does not track student health records and does not have primary responsibilities for administering student medication, identifying student health issues and administering CPR and first aid. The class of Health Assistant is distinguished from the class of Instructional/Health Care Assistant in that the latter has primary responsibilities in providing instructional assistance to students with disabilities of the highest degree of severity including students who are bed-ridden and does not maintain student health records. The class of Health Assistant is distinguished from the class of Personal Care Assistant in that the latter has primary responsibility for attending to the physical needs of students with disabilities primarily in a classroom setting and does not maintain student health records. EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or equivalency is required. Course work in health, biology, physiology, or related field is desirable. VACATION: Employees with one (1) to three (3) years of service earn vacation at the rate of one (1) day for each month in paid status for a maximum of 12 vacation days per year. Once a transcript is submitted and verified by the Human Resources division, unit members will be eligible for one stipend based on the highest degree earned. Stipend amounts will be divided into 10 monthly payments, September - June. The stipend amount will be prorated for any midyear degrees conferred in the month the transcript was submitted to and verified by the Human resources
