Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill three (3) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Access Assistant for the Disability Access Services at Oregon State University (OSU).

An Access Assistant (AA) is a student employee hired by DAS to assist a student with disabilities to perform tasks that are a required component of the course. AAs will only help conduct course-related procedures that the student is unable to complete due to their disability. AAs, under the direction of the DAS student, may assist with the manipulation of lab materials and with the completion of in-class assignments. AAs may also assist the student with navigating the classroom/lab environment. All information about the actual course and lab processes and procedures are the student's responsibility.

Position Duties

Tasks performed is dependent on the type of course and the student's disability related impacts. Some tasks may include one or more of the following: Lifting objects Describing visual materials or surroundings Physical manipulation of lab materials Gathering supplies Pouring/mixing liquids Using tools and/or cutting Scribing (filling out required lab worksheets or other written materials) Voicing for a student (typically, by reading from a computer screen) Minimum Qualifications

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the

Office of International Services

(OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

Prefer previous lab experience at the 200 level or above in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and other STEM related courses

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Prior experience working with individuals who are low vision/Blind or individuals with limited fine motor skills.
