The Office of Public Affairs (OPA) at the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is looking for a veteran communicator to lead our Office of Public Affairs as a Staff Services Manager II (SSM II).

The candidate will report directly to the External Affairs Division Deputy Director, making sure that our internal and external communications are timely, clear, and impactful. This position requires a high level of autonomy, compassionate leadership, strong writing, timely and precise problem-solving, curiosity, creativity, in-depth research, grace under pressure, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will have experience working with the media, creating plain-language messages about complicated topics, meeting urgent deadlines, and navigating the intricacies of government communications. They will have experience successfully leading, coaching, and mentoring team members; shaping creative and impactful internal and external communications campaigns; and harnessing data to analyze the impact of those campaigns.

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.

Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California's Personal Leave Program.

Working Conditions Position is located in a high-rise building. Telework is partially available. Standard office environment.
