Overview

The Department of Veteran Services is seeking a mission-driven Data Analyst to transform complex datasets into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making across veteran services, policy development, and outreach initiatives. This role blends statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization to uncover trends, assess program impact, and inform equitable resource allocation.

Responsibilities

  • Transform complex datasets into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making across veteran services, policy development, and outreach initiatives.
  • Apply statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization to uncover trends and inform program evaluation and resource allocation.
  • Lead internal stakeholder interviews, collect veteran engagement data, and develop data visualizations to inform data-driven project solutions and senior-level decisions.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and market research to aid in project development.
  • Support and analyze the agency’s data collection and reporting processes.
  • Receive, analyze, and update CRM data for outreach to service members and veterans; perform deeper dives into related data initiatives (e.g., by gender, age, region).

Qualifications

  • Strong Python skills and experience with NLP techniques (e.g., Latent Semantic Analysis / LSA, Named-entity recognition, Complex Event Processing).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; MySQL, RStudio; Time Series Analysis; Lean Six Sigma; Statistical Regression; Python; Data Visualization (Tableau).
  • Experience analyzing performance data to compile metrics for senior leadership on a recurring basis.
  • Experience in data-driven project solutions and informing senior-level government decisions.
  • Knowledge of supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, including data clustering.
  • Experience handling and analyzing veteran-related data or social impact datasets is a plus.
