Overview
A Data Analyst role for the Department of Veterans Services (DVS) in Virginia. The position supports strategic decision-making across veteran services, policy development, and outreach initiatives by transforming complex datasets into actionable insights. The role blends statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization to uncover trends, assess program impact, and inform equitable resource allocation.
Responsibilities
- Lead data analysis projects that support Research and Program Evaluation and provide support to the V3 Transition Program (V3TP) and Transition & Employment (T&E) and Education directorates.
- Apply Python skills and techniques related to Natural Language Processing (NLP) including Latent Semantic Analysis/Indexing (LSA/LSI), Named-entity recognition (NER), and Complex Event Processing (CEP).
- Analyze performance data to compile metrics for senior leadership on a recurring basis.
- Lead internal stakeholder interviews, collect veteran engagement data, and develop data visualizations to inform data-driven project solutions and senior-level government decisions.
- Conduct competitive analysis and market research to aid in project development.
- Support and analyze the agency’s data collection and reporting processes.
- Apply knowledge of various supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, with emphasis on data clustering.
- Receive, analyze, and update CRM eDD214 data for outreach to TSMs who live in Virginia.
- Perform deeper dives of Manage the electronic dd214 data initiative by collecting and distributing to service line managers; analyze by gender, age category, and region to support transitioning service members (TSMs) by region.
Qualifications
- Experience with data projects supporting analysis important for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Strong Python skills and interest in NLP techniques (LSA/LSI), NER, and CEP.
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; MySQL, RStudio, Time Series Analysis, Lean 6 Sigma, Statistical Regression; Data Visualization with Tableau; and Python.
- Experience analyzing performance data to compile metrics for senior leadership on a recurring basis.
- Ability to lead internal stakeholder interviews, collect veteran engagement data, and develop data visualizations to inform data-driven project solutions and senior-level government decisions.
- Experience conducting competitive analysis and market research to aid in project development.
- Experience supporting and analyzing agency data collection and reporting processes.
- Knowledge of supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, especially data clustering.
- Experience receiving, analyzing, and updating CRM eDD214 data for outreach to Virginia-based TSMs, and performing deeper dives into the eDD214 initiative by region.
